I honestly don't understand why people don't think Chip Pope is one of the funniest people on earth
But here's also the thing: I am a really big fan of AUSTIN STORIES which he was on. If you haven't seen it, it's a shot-on-film sitcom about 3 friends who live in austin texas. A lot of the stories are inconsequential slices of life, and the characters were the driving force of the show. It was also really fucking funny. Like, sit-around-with-friends-and-laughing-really-honestly-hard funny. Like, I'll get my friends together and we'd watch kinda heady conceptual bullshit sketch/satire/parody shows that us kids like so damn much, and while everyone likes it, the honest laughs don't come all THAT often. There's a lot of "I'm smart and i appreciate that, so I'll laugh to let everyone know that' laughs. Austin Stories fucking killed us.
On the show he pretty much played himself. Same name, but he was kind of a pathetic losery sadsack-goofball. His character still lived with his ex-girlfriend, who you never saw because she'd always be in her room fucking someone else. He was constantly trying to win back her approval, but there was just no way in hell that he could ever do that because of what an awful situation he's kept himself in. He could occasinally be a bastard, but ONLY to his friend who was slightly more of a loser than he was. In obvious ways these videos are really opposite of what Chip's Austin Stories character is like, but they exhibit a lot of character traits that make me go "THATS MY CHIP!" So maybe past experiances make me see things that are funny that nobody else can.

His creepy laughing/lip-licking as he comes in for a good-morning kiss after saying "you hit the jackpot last night"
The DIFFERNET creepy laugh he does after saying "MY ROOMMATE'S FUCKING THAT FAT CHICK AGAIN!"
That fucking great mouth move he makes before he says "are you ready to go for round one?" he could be Bill Haverchuck's (from Freaks and Geeks) older brother or something. Then how his sleezy smile just fades into a mouth-breathing stare. Shit
The hand choereography when he lip-syncs TALK ABOUT IT, and the way he says "TALK ABOUT IT!"
The pathetic list of food items he has, especially the CHIK-OF-STICK cracks me up. And then the callback to PUT THEM IN YOUR MOUTH, this time way whinier.
"you don't get that option anymore, honey" and the whole thing about "take your things, and... DON'T take your things because they're gonna be for your sister" and how happy he is when the woman leaves
I mean, shit I have SUCH a hard time that people dont find this funny that I'm just writing down the jokes as if you just didn't watch them or something. When I found this thing I watched it over and over on a daily basis and died laughing every time. I think its a perfect, very simple peice of comedy that has a lot of hysterical things in it.
The Britney Spears video is just a lot of (what I think is) really funny kind of mean-spirited making-fun-of that reminds me of the kind of stuff I used to do in high school. Me and my friends would video tape the TV screen like that and just poke relentless fun at whatever we were watching. It was like Chip was channeling my shithead friends, but also there was enough of him in it to make it interesting and funny. Like, he's better than this, and I know it, but that's also why it works and it's so funny?
So I guess to summarize this post: I know Chip Pope better than you do and that's why this is all funny to me.
