Well, I'm at my new Unit. And already I have a day off. Go figure.
From what I understand, this unit is very laid back. Nothing really happens here. So its full of pranks, and jokes, and goofing off and all that fun stuff.

High-speed wireless, but on the downside, I'm far away from the Router, and only getting 46% signal strength with a connection that tops out at 11 Mbps. To slow for my online games.
(does anyone know, besides moving my PC into the hallway, of increasing wireless signal strength? bigger antenna or something?)

anyway, my roommate seems like a decent guy, and I met most of the people around the Station, some cute girls work here... but that is about all the females in a 20 miles. The town around Winchester Bay is dead. I hope to God that is livens up in the summer when Tourist arrive. I could walk across the town in 5 minutes. I'm in the asspit of Oregon with only Sand Dunes around. And most people stop at Florence instead of driving an extra 30 miles south.

A thing that you can do that works on cellphones (and old TVs) is to put some alluminum foil on the antenna. Ball it up or make it like a foil disc. Kind of looks like a satellite.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to protect American shores when you're in the Middle East.

The coast guard gets a bad rap because it's not on the front lines fighting the terrorists or the nazis. Don't try to compare apples and oranges. They face their share of shit, drug lords, criminals, sea monsters.

And just what, may I ask, do you do that makes you so fucking special?

What do I do? It's actually similar to what you do in that it also involves the sea but it's pretty different. I'm a part-time crewmember on a fishing and crabbing boat off the Aleutian islands in Alaska (part-time because no one is full-time if they like staying alive). Doesn't sound like much but it's probably the hardest job in the world especially during snow king crab season because everyone is frozen, sleep deprived and fighting over the same zone and the weather isn't exactly user-friendly. And the rest of the time I work construction and wish my college education was worth more than a piss in a stiff wind.

Unlike you I don't talk about my job all the time and act like I'm a fuckin navy seal, but you asked so there it is. Seems to me that all your letters-home type posts would mean a lot more if you weren't actually STILL AT HOME.

They should change Chuck Noriss Facts to Mike Facts.

Mike is so tough that he catches crabs by giving them a dirty look.

Yeah, considering you get to work half the year, so it's really working out to $7500/month.

You actually get to work a lot more than that. Snow king isn't the only thing that pays.

Well if they ever do, I'll be grateful. But until I actually see the US coast gaurd out in crabbing waters, I'll assume they're too busy learning to tie ropes in the harbor, or regulating lunch breaks.

haha, the reason the Coast Guard isn't in American fishing waters is because we are busy chasing the Russians fishing fleet away. It is standard policy to chase them all the way back until the Cutter can spot the Russian Homeland.

Well you probably won't have to worry about that too much next B season because they have an estimated 60% of the spawn rate on their side.
