Two days in a row now. For two days I've had to wake up at around 3:30 a.m. so I could drive down to Chicago and sit in the MEPS building for hours. It's where you go to process for enterance into the military. (I'm thinking of joining the Air Force). The first day I failed a vision test and had to be sent to a doctor for further evaluation. I spent all day sitting in waiting rooms, for him to look at my eyes and say, "you're good". Then day two I go back and finish my testing and after around 8 hours of being in the building they're ready for me to enlist. Thing is I didn't know I had to enlist that day and I wasn't really sure what job I'd wanted or even if I wanted to give up good ol' civilian life for the military. So I backed out and was told I could come back in a few days.

So here in lies the question of what should I do so why not ask a random group of strangers who I never speak with.
Do I continue working these shitty jobs that crush your spirit but allow you those little outside perks like freedom and the hope that maybe I'll land that good job?
Do I enlist in the military and have a decent job (possibly) but be a tool of the government for at least four years?
Or do I drive to Mexico and live in a trailer and sell fireworks and gamble at cockfights?

Anyone here been in the service? Any opinions?

well, I can imagine airforce being less bad than the normal army.

just think about it.

and if they want you to bomb civilinas, turn that jet around and bomb your superiors into the ground

Never been in the military. I guess it depends on what kind of job you want.

The mechanic jobs and firefighter jobs are the most sought after. There's also an easy route into the medical field. Most all Military have a medical field that if you decide to take you recieve your license as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) which can get you an easy job in the hospitals irrigating flesh wounds and wiping asses.

And there's always the MP. MOst of the defensive training courses they offer can get your foot in the door with In-House Security departments.

I would recommend the Air Force above all other branches. It just seems that they get treated better, have better training and they seem to offer a lot more occupational specialties that have applications in the civilian world ... and that's coming from an regular army veteran.
