If I build a wireless micro basic PC (no keyboard/monitor or mouse) with a large hard-drive would it be possible to remotely control it from my other PC?

Yes, but how much do you want to pay?

Seems to me like you just need an external harddrive...

I have an extra pentium 4 based computer I'm not using, and I have a wireless USB. I just don't know how to make it a network type configuration.

Okay, so you want to harness its processing powers and its hard drive capacity.

Well, I think you may be able to do something like that with PCAnywhere or some other equivalent software.

If you use Windows on both PCs, you could easily control the other using a Visual Basic program and a serial null cable. I can help you with this if you want, seems like it would be a fun project.

What exactly do you want to do with the other PC? The more complicated the task, the more data that needs to pass between the two PCs, and the slower both PCs will go. Also, you should know that CPUs do not tend to like to divide up a task between the two of them unless it is a dual-processor system or a hyper-threading processor.

With all due respect to fartin, I doubt he knows what either of these things are, let alone how to use them.
Not to mention there really isn't much point when tonnes of remote desktop software already exists.

Yeah, but remote desktop uses a lot of resources itself.

Anyway, I think it would be a fun project... okay, well I am a geek though.

Dylithium crystals???
Everybody knows that photovoltaic ruby encrusted crocodile scales are so much better in that application.
