Old Jun 27th, 2009, 06:05 PM        Forget the new movie, the original Transformers: Season 1 is out on DVD!

For some inexplicable reason, the original generation 1 Transformers cartoon has been out of print for years now, so anybody who wanted it was forced to resort to buying the old DVD set for exorbitant prices on eBay 'n what not.

I just got a copy of the new set and it's definitely worth picking up. Get this... in addition to the 16 original episodes, they also included the Transformers Public Service Announcements. I totally forgot they even did any of those for the cartoon, and they're a lot like the classic G.I. Joe ones.

Another nice treat is the fact that they included a bunch of the original toy commercials. You know, the hilarious ones where the kids would stare at the screen and say "more than meets the eye" in a robotic voice while their eyes glowed? It's nice to see them in good quality for a change instead of on the old vhs dubs on youtube.

So yeah, my advice is to skip the new Transformers movie and stick with the classic cartoon along with the original animated movie. At least with those ones we won't have to see Soundwave turned into a friggin' satellite.

Oh hayyylzz yea. I watched those with friends back in the days. I'm not sure if I'm going to actually buy a dvd set though. It's just nice to know they care enough to compile that onto DVDs.

Yeah, I wish they put 'em all out at once, but I'm sure this means we'll eventually see all the seasons put out on DVD. This set'll keep me entertained for a while anyway. There's a G.I. Joe set coming out in July too I think... I'm gonna try picking that one up so I'll post my review of it here when I get it.

How many seasons is it? Just one? Or do they have all 5?

I got the old dvd sets still, not sure if I wanna spend the money again. A friend of mine did some of the artwork on the box, it's definitely a nice set.

$20 is a fair price. Might pick it up and discover what I've been missing

This is just the first season so far, but I think they'll be releasing all of 'em.

Yeah I have one of the old thick / shiny silver sets too and it's a really nice package, but those are out o' print now so this is definitely the way to go, and the old sets don't have the commercials or the psas on 'em.

The second season set (maybe part two) has the psa's and a good deal of the commercials were on the 20th Movie dvd. So I'm still good as far as those go, however if I get a good deal I may upgrade. It's good though that the show is available on DVD again, with the movies pumping up interest in TF, more people are lilely to buy the sets now than they would have bought the older sets when they were in stores.
