Whatever your opinion is on Pinochet, you must admit that his economic policies were quite effective. Brutally effective, but then so is he. The recovery was so great that it was dubbed the Miracle of Chile.

Read about Pinochet.

Yeah, if only fixing our own economy was a simple matter of committing mass murder.

There was a bank owner in the Chicago suburbs that basically said what the one and only said only about Hitler. He was forced to resign his position :/

OAO has wet dreams of Milton Friedman at night, so yes, as Chimpy said, it's no surprise that OAO is a supporter of "Pinochet's" economic policy....

That's such a provacative stance, though. I mean, I find myself all provoked. I might have to make a knee jerk response. On account of how provoked I am by the provacative nature of his statement.

Oh, let me make one back! No matter what you think of Milton Friedman's economoic policy, you have to admit he has a totally gay name that makes you want to push his lunch try up into his face in the caffeteria.

I have a picture of Friedman I keep on my desk, I remember a girl asking me once if it was a picture of Vladimir Lenin.

That memory still makes me want to cry sometimes.

Were you masturbating at the time?

Oh my god, that was simply the best joke ever. I think I should stop posting altogether now.

The thing about Pinochet's policy was that it worked. Really, really well, I might add.

Oh, and I'm not too big on MF. Monetarist theory is sort of like an extension on neoclassical theory, which I fundamentally reject. I'm more of an Austrian myself... it just so happens that the Austrian's and Monetarist's political opinions overlap on many issues.

I agree. He really wiped out a lot of people.

Edit: Seriously, though, this proves a very important point, and that is that the ends do justify the means.

His murders do not have anything to do with his economic policy.

Unless you are going to say that he killed all those people in order to lower the population, in an effort to keep the price of limited resources more stable.

I sincerely doubt that, though.

I was suggesting that the means, a brutal and murderous dictator, justify the ends, an improved economy.

It was a joke, of course, and my overall point was that in my humble opinion, a man responsible for so many cases of torture and murder is not deserving of any praise whatsoever.

I think it's cute the way One and only wants to be alll provocative with his ideas about Pinochets brilliant economics policies when he thinks you shouldn't pay attention to Al Gores speech becuase he took questionable contributions from bhuddists.

Cute and PROVOCATIVE!!!
