There was a shooting this morning that occurred in the dorm I lived in back in '95-'96. I was about a decade too early and missed all the excitement. :O

It's just kinda surreal seeing people talk about the dorm I used to live in in this context.

I really don't understand people who go on shooting rampages.

I understand people might be bitter because they are picked on at school, or they hate life or people who are jerks to them or something. Why don't they take that anger and hatred and kill people who are jerks though instead of going on rampages and possibly killing nice people who are innocent and have never done anything to you? I mean, if somebody came to school and shot all of their bullies in the face it wouldn't be as bad as randomly shooting innocent people, I think.

Although the shooting took place on the same campus 6 months prior to yesterday's, you can't really blame the police for assuming the first shooting was an isolated domestic incident that prevented them from taking extensive measure to clamp down the campus. But then when the second shooting was occuring that killed 30 people including the gunman, the police was standing outside waiting for the shooting to end before entering the building which is precisely the same thing happened at columbine high school. They could have had entered the building and try to minimize casualty and damage, but they weren't required to do so thanks to the dumb US gun control law that was passed in 1968 which was inspired by the...are you ready for this...the nazi weapons law.

I was going to suggest people just stop having kids, but I guess your idea is OK.

And of course the advocates and the poltiicians and the mouthpieces are jumping on this.

Both sides of the gun control debate jumping in on how more laws/less laws would have prevented this.

the mindset is probably that the people you don't know are really likely to be jerks since such a high percentage of the people you do know ARE jerks, so who cares

plus it's not like the news is going to report whether people getting killed in school shootings are jerks or not so who knows maybe they all were jerks
