many of you may remember vince being told to join the military himself if he was so damn anxious to send off our troops, hell, most of you probably said it to him yourself. well, I am actually man enough to back up my fucking words, so as of my birthday I will be a member of the Army Reserves. After I finish school, I will give Uncle Sam my 4 to 8.

LIKE YOUR GENERAL. He matters. I think the military is for saps. I'd never join, but I'm skinny and scrawny and can barely lift ten pounds.

You have my utmost respect, ItalianStereotype. It's because the military is NOT for me and I know I wouldn't be able to stand it that I have such a high regard for those who do join voluntarily. I applaud you for signing up, and may God watch over you.

Boot camp was something that I do not think I would go through again, but it was certainly an interesting experience nonetheless. A real kick in the ass. I still do not remember much of the first 3 days of it. Maybe 4 hours of sleep for those 3 days. I remember getting there, head shaving and then it is a blur until we were in our permanent barracks. Kind of scary in a way.

The last 2 weeks though, they really let up on you, especially the last week. We could sleep until 5:30am (went to bed at 9pm), go to the recruit lounge building and get pizza and play pool and arcade games; all in all a lot of earned freedom the last few days. We even ordered out on the last two or three days.

Boot camp is a lasting memory for me. It was certainly tough, both mentally (mindfucks galore) and physically (PE was hell, but I was able to run a mile and a half in 8 minutes by the end), but in a way, it was cool, and very rewarding.

Recruiters ARE almost complete liars when discussing it with prospects. Do not be fooled.

When/if I join, I wouldn't make a big event out of it. That is when you know you are serving for the RIGHT reasons.

Besides, July 3rd is the 3 month anniversy of my site. Much more important date, in my opinion.

Respect is understandable for Doctors, Nurses, Teachers and the like...but the military?? Why the fuck would someone admire someone for joining the military, especially in this day and age???

Hmmmmm... I don't know, because if not for the guys in the military the doctors, nurses and teachers would have no one to secure their freedoms? Besides, being a doctor is a passe thing as is. Everyone has a doctorate nowadays.
