RoG, what style of tawkwondo are you taking? I'm just curious because it was a big part of my life (read- my dad owned a school and I was in it for 10 years) and so it is something I'm interested in. By style I mean is it like ATA or WTTF?

We had a man come to our school a couple weeks ago to show a few karate things to us. I didnt do it though, I just sat and laughed at this fat girl. They were doing some defense thing where you had to drop down and get up really fast over and over again and she couldnt do it. Anyway, he started doing a thing where we got in groups of 2 and one of us would hold the pad around our stomach and the other person would like grab our head and knee us in the stomach. Looked pretty cool, but when he gave the example, some girl kneed him fucking hard in the balls. I was cracking up and he was almost crying, it was cool. I mean... it sucked to him but... it was fucking fun to watch :/

That's cool, Mockery. Keep it going to reach black belt. Same to you, Protoclown. I am curious what type Tae Kwon Do are you taking? There's different styles in Tae Kwon Do. I know that is odd to me. I like Tae Kwon Do. I have been in traning for few years. I am learning in Jhoo Rhee's Tae Kwon Do (it is better know as American Tae Kwo Do.) I am in blue belt.

I got lazy and quit, I think it was Tae Kwon Moo Do

Pro Tae Kwon Do - Um Yang Su
Weaponry
Internal Methods
Yu Ga Kwon

I have no idea what ATA/WTTF is, though I like the sound of Proto's "WTF" style very much indeed.

If I may say so, Tae Kwon Do is a very poor martial art. Sure, it's a great base for others, but if you plan on winning any kind of fight with it, you've got a better chance of bending over and just let your opponent kick your ass. The kicking style of Tae Kwon Do becomes infeffective once you're up close and personal with someone. Add to that the fact that it's not even TAUGHT right anymore (no more punch techniques) makes it even worse.

I'd reccommend Kung Fu, Aikido, Judo, or Ju Jitsu.

I think Judo would be most effective for you though.

Much as I hate to agree with Captain Robo, I've heard the same thing from several people who know enough about martial arts for me to believe them. But it's not like the SOLE reason to get into martial arts is to fight. It's fun, it's good exercise, keeps you toned, etc.

True.

Self defense is what the Martial Arts are about, and you're not supposed to go looking for fights, but when someone gets in your face, you gotta kick their ass.

But one thing Tae Kwon Do IS good for are the flexibility techniques. For example, I don't look very flexible at all, but you'd be surprised.

And my testimony to why Tae Kwon Do sucks is that I take Aikido now, and I have never won a single sparring match using it against an opponent using Aikido. If you can keep a TKD artist from using their legs, the fight is over.

I'm in it for exercise (getting away from the computer is nice), improving my flexibility (which I've already noticed a big change in), and kicking. I friggin love kicking since I'm a tall bastard. So, it's definitely perfect for what I wanted to do.

Plus, it's nice training under a world champion 9th degree grandmaster. Can't complain about that one either...

does that mean that you can fold katana's out of paper and inflict mean paper cuts on somebody?


anyway, origami can be usefull as well, seeing as ancient Japanese samurai had armor made out of paper folded in ways so that they could withstand an impact of an arrow.

No, actually that was the Chinese. But It got soaked in the rain and became useless. Lived up to it's cheap cost.
