there was no time travel but if you payed any attention to vincents side story he was the original head of the TURKS then he died and was posessed by a demon that brought him back to life as Vincent.

He wasn't possessed by a demon, he died and was resurrected by Hojo, who somehow found a way to resurrect people and make them transform... into Jason :-/
