The only thing I really know about the sociological perspective is that some ex-SU Russians were brought into places like supermarkets, they were mentally overwhelmed by all the choices.

Well camicazio, I think it is important to go back and not only find out why things happen, but also try to find ways of combating them in the future. You may have noticed that the stalinist beuracracy was not isolated to just the USSR, it spawned itself into other Communist Parties.
