I watched Slacker again yesterday. It has to come out on DVD someday.

Vibe, with all due respect to the lectures you have attended and your "vast knowledge" on this subject: For someone who is a "Buddist" you sure come across as a rather stuck-up prude on this subject! Shouldn't you be happy in a humble buddistic sorta way over the fact that someone/anyone understands the same things as you do (and in their time)?
Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying but all in all, think about ALL the shit that everyone else knows, and to which you haven't even begun to grasp a concept of!
I guess its just another case of I-am-a-westerner-who-thinks-I-can--fathom Buddism, but then again, you've read all that in a book so, you are wise, they are/ I am stupid, and the whole thing is so, so sad!!

To Linklater's credit, he never intended the movie to get into serious philosophical speculation. A 'pot brownie', as he called it.
