In no particular order, except for #1. I'd happily sit down and play any of these for several hours straight.
  1. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (PS1)
  2. Everquest Online Adventures (PS2)
  3. Resident Evil 2 (PS1)
  4. Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
  5. Pitfall! (Atari)

#1 is my favourite, the rest are in no particular order:

Baldur's Gate II
Knights of the Old Republic
Jak 2
Jade Empire
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

Honourable mentions to all the rest of the games that are part of series that I've mentioned (the Kain series, the Jak series, etc), and Fallout 1 and 2. Anyone see a trend? I LOVE YOU BIOWARE WHY DON'T YOU CALL ME ANYMORE?

Blaster Master (NES)
Lemmings (SNES)
Final Fantasy 3/6 (SNES)

Vagrant Story (PSX)

If I could have five more:

MDK2 (Dreamcast)
Lost Vikings (SNES)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Bionic Commando (Game Boy)
Contra: Hard Corps (Genesis)

Wow, I didn't know that many people actually love Baldur's Gate II and Fallout so much. I mean, it's a great game, but are there really that many people out there that have played and loved the game, or just in this Forum?

Uh, is this 430 games you own, 430 games you've played, or 430 games you've absolutely loved out of what would have to be the three thousand you've played?

For the first two, surely you own or have played some real crap games, right?

If you've played enough games to have absolutely loved 430, and God knows how many you've played that were good but not a personal favorite or okay or mediocre or sucked, my hat's off to you man.

Yeah, there should be at least a few games you cherish above all others.

You know, the ones you'd save in a fire.

Well, that's not necessarily a way to determine how much you like the game. I called Blaster Master my favorite game, but if I had to I'd let it burn, because I can get another copy for a buck. On the other hand, I coughed up $130 for Panzer Dragoon Saga, and $170 for Radiant Silvergun. I haven't played the former yet (it probably will be the next thing I play, though), and while I really liked what I played of the latter I really haven't played enough form an opinion of it. However, those two would get my priority in a fire.

Maybe the correct question is if some time disruption threatened the existence of the game, would you go back in time and save it?

Or perhaps, "if you had to go to a deserted island and could only take 5 games, what would they be?"

There are about 15 or so I love equally, so I would have a hard time choosing. But I would probably go with

Morrowind (PC/X-Box)
Uncharted Waters: New Horizons (SNES/Genesis)
Wizardry (NES/PC)
Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX/PSP)
Valkyrie Profile (PSX/PSP)

Though all of the following are close and depending on my mood might get swapped in for any of the above (except Valkyrie Profile, that goes no matter what). Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 5, Legend of Zelda, Castlevania: SotN, Wizardry 8, Super Metroid, Super Punch Out, Dragon Warrior 3, Dragon Warrior 4, Shining Force 2, Warsong, River City Ransom

If I had to take 5 games to a desert island I'd make sure they were all PC games from the 90s, so in the worst case scenario I could lash the giant boxes together and sail to safety.

Tim, could you condense your Dragon Quest article to about a paragraph that would convince my sister to grind Cursed King for me?

Would make my list, however, I think it's too hard to make an official top 5 because crossing consoles and generations is just too difficult to narrow down.
