Old Mar 14th, 2003, 11:54 AM        DIXIE CHICKS DIS BUSH
At a concert in London, The lead singer said she was ashamed Bush was from Texas .

Apparently the country music fan base in up in arms. I guess not everyone can be Lee Greenwood and get by with just the one song.

Actually, I think it's kind of cute that country fans are outraged by Bush bashing, but when the Chicks wrote a song about murdering a wife beater and getting away with it, they didn't mind.

I'd have thought being anti-wife beating would have been more controversial with gun rack crowd.

It was all a misunderstanding. The Dixie Slits thought that the band "Bush" was from Texas, and they were rightfully upset, yet,
misinformed.

Do you think they actually understand or pay attention to the lyrics? I think country fans are staring at and thinking of something else when they see and hear the Dixie chicks.

Dixie 'slits'. I get it. 'Cause that rhymes with 'chicks' and references their female genitalia.

That's pretty clever.

I'm not much for cerebral comedy like that, though. But that's just me.

actually, it's more of an approximate rhyme, which I was attempting to use to show the discordance between the members of the band and the country music society, but hey, don't worry about it.

Wow, either you totally don't recognize sarcasm, or you're heapin' an extra helpin' of your own sarcasm on top of Burbank's sarcasm and makin' a BIG OL' SARCASM SANDWICH! I guess you sure "told" him.

Either way, it was lame.

They backed down.

Not surprised, really.

Just a factoid: They played at Dubya's gubernatorial inauguration in 1995. I think it might've been an earlier incarnation of the band, though, when they were releasing albums called Thank Heavens for Dale Evans.

And here's a shock, their apology has done nothing to stop radio stations banning them and public displays of people throwing out their records being sponsored by record companies. They should have known not to bother.

I like the Dixie Chicks. I already owned several of their CD's. 'Cause, you know, of the music on them. I haven't stopped liking Planet of the Apes and the Omega Man just becuase Charleton Heston has become a more vocal lunatic.

This kind of crap is 'Freedom Fries' writ slightly larger.

I miss the days when after Bush senior unironically co-opted "Born in The U.S.A. the Boss took the stage at concerts shouting "Don't vote for that fuckin' Bush!"

I don't really care about their music one way or the other, but I was pretty disappointed to see them back down and apologize for what they said.

I think legislation should be passed preventing celebrities from speaking out against the President. I mean, this is wartime.

Who cares. If someone else that wasn't a star said that nobody would care. I have how this country works.
