Carcass & friends, 3-17-09

Where do I even start? Besides sitting in a line for nearly an hour before getting towed and chatting with people before the show started. Two notable quips were the following:

(After myself and some folks watch three girls walk to the back by the buses) "Death metal groupies. I guess the chubby one's for the drummer since he's not an original member."

One person had also asked me why I come to concerts by myself almost all the time. I just told him "My friends are wimps. If I wanted to cart a bunch of pussies around I'd probably have gone and seen Creed or something."

But yeah, the bands...starting at 7:25 PM...

Arsis - They played for roughly 18 minutes, with the crowd not even moshing til' the very end. They came off as almost an afterthought. hell, the traffic on the way there was more brutal.

Psycroptic - Aussie Death Metal with hardcore vocals. They got waaaaaaay over with the crowd and were actually fun to watch. Their set lasted roughly 25 minutes.

Samael - Loved them, they were so hilariously over-the-top. In between one of the sets the bassist climbed up the stand to reach a light as if he was "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Swiss Miss". Plus the keyboardist/drummer/finger-drummer was comedy gold. Their set lasted about 30 minutes.

Suicide Silence - I guess they connect ala Lamb of God but I thought they were totally SHIT. Unbearable cracker music. Their set was short (Mercifully).

Carcass - Fuckin' Stellar. Their set, consisting of stuff varying through their whole career and a screen showing gore. They joked a lot between songs and had a good time, just like the crowd was. I'm not too sure of the setlist, but this may be it.

I wore an Electric Wizard t-shirt and sunglasses, which got me over for some reason. As I left, some dude asked me if I could "still hear". I could hear just fine. I guess his diet lacks riffs and my hearing's made of METAL.
