I really didn't pay much attention to this story when it broke earlier today, but the body count is at 82 and apparently the terrorists (who are militant Muslims) targeted Americans and Britons.

From the AP report:
Alex Chamberlain, a British citizen, told Sky News television that a gunman ushered 30 to 40 people from the restaurant into a stairway and, speaking in Hindi or Urdu, ordered everyone to put up their hands
"They were talking about British and Americans specifically. There was an Italian guy, who, you know, they said: 'Where are you from?" and he said he's from Italy and they said 'fine' and they left him alone. And I thought: 'Fine, they're going to shoot me if they ask me anything — and thank God they didn't," he said.

What a time to be alive...

I initially misread it as Murambi, and I was wondering why terrorists were attacking Rwanda.

Evidently Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is a hotbed for terrorist attacks. I don't know anything about the group that did it.

No wonder I'd never heard of it before. All the books I've read regarding India must've predated the name change. Wikipedia reports it as being the largest city in India and its financial capital. That's pretty horrible.

The group that is taking responsibility is called "Deccan Mujahideen". None of the news outlets seem to know who the fuck they are.

Ditto. That was part of the reason I disregarded it as wacky Middle Easterners being wacky Middle Easterners. Damn shame that this shit even goes down. I can not stand the chicken-shit tactics terrorists use.

You would think that the group in question would at least explain who the fuck they are and what the fuck they stand for.

It really pisses me off. I like to travel a lot and now will be more unsafe than usual because of our war mongery leaders.
Many of my friends said they have been treated differently to other europeans when on holiday by muslims, often quite hostile.
SAying that, only 18 months ago I was in Jordan and all the muslims were lovely and sweet to me.

In the UK, you get a few ass holes that think that ALL muslims are suicide bombers and treat them as such, sadly you get similar stupidity by muslims who treat all Brits and Americans as though they themselves were Bush and Blair.

I went to Egypt a few months ago and the security just to move about was ridiculous, on a bog standard Nile cruise we had armed guards (they were asleep a lot of the time though). But when I travel around Europe, South Africa, Canada or the States, I only have to be aware of average crims who want me for my money and not because I'm british.

This is so shit.

I agree. I hate when everyone accuses someone of being a terrorist just because their muslim (or look it) but it's equally idiotic for the Muslims to hate people for being from America or Britain.

You're either for India or you're against it.

Bit of a problem when something's so big. Chances are, there're parts you're for and parts you're against.

The Lavon Affair refers to the scandal over a failed Israeli covert operation in Egypt known as Operation Susannah, in which Israeli military intelligence planted bombs in Egyptian, American and British-owned targets in Egypt in the summer of 1954 in the hopes that "the Muslim Brotherhood, the Communists, 'unspecified malcontents' or 'local nationalists'" would be blamed.

Reflecting a widespread assessment in Pakistan, Moonis Ahmar, a professor of international relations at the University of Karachi, called the attacks a well-thought out conspiracy designed to destabilize relations between India and Pakistan and sabotage efforts at*reconciliation.
