Oh, I remember when those birds died here in Austin. That one's irrelevant; it turned out some local was setting out poison for them, since they were roosting on his balcony or something. I was downtown when it happened; everyone was freaking out, and a lot of buildings were cleared out because of the immediate bird flu scare.

Hundreds of dead snapper have washed up on two Coromandel beaches.

The Ministry of Fisheries says the find was reported on Tuesday afternoon, with the fish bring washed up at Little Bay and Waikawau Bay.

Field operations manager Brendon Mikkelsen says dead fish were seen further out to sea early Tuesday morning, but the sighting was not reported until later in the day.

Many of the fish are missing their eyes, which Mr Mikkelsen says indicates they had been dead in the water for some time.

in the winter birds are migrating in seasonal packs of hundreds and sometimes thousands, then when some ass sets off huge fireworks (new years eve) it shoots up directly where the birds are and causes the pack to panic, while the birds are freaking out they're flying 40mph right into one another over and over again. the ones that are injured badly enough fall to their deaths.
