I was in the minority for Manhunt. I loved the first game...I played it with headphones in a dark room and with a headset, so they could hear every breath I took. With headphones, you can hear the attackers from every angle and it really adds something to the experience to know if someone's directly behind you, or to the left.
It wasn't so much about the gore for me as much as it was the sheer hopelessness of the situation, and the fact that the enemies weren't just looking to capture me or just beat me up, but that they were genuinely looking to slit my throat. For some reason, I don't get that same sense of danger out of, say, GTA. I liked it, knowing that I could actually die. Also, most of the enemies were very easy to hate anyway, so it felt good to crack their skulls.
I've heard nothing but bad things about this game, though, and the fact that they replaced the static in the cameras with BLUR BLUR BLUR just makes it worse.
