So who has this album already and what do you think of it so far?

I'm four songs into it and so far it's great. I know some people were complaining that it's not loud enough, but fuck, it doesn't have to be loud to be good. And incidentally, "Blue", the fourth song, is their best one yet.

Welp, I just finished listening to the album and I'm now on my second run. Here's my track-by-track rundown of it so far:

I'm on the last song, and I really liked it. I've only gone through it once, but I'm pretty happy with it. I might even like it better than their first album, but I'm not sure yet.

I've listened to it a few times now. "Weak and Powerless"... hmm, yep. That pretty much sums up the album right there.

I am on "Blue" right now, it is a lot more mellow so far. I don't think i can expect anything like "Judith" on this one

It is very good in a way completely different than Mer de Noms

Very good indeed.

Judith was one of the songs I liked the least on Mer de Noms actually, yet it's better than anything on this new album. They'll never be able to top songs like BreƱa () or Orestes ().

never.

While it is true that Orestes will never be topped, this album is a damn good album. It stands apart from Mer de Noms stylisiticly, and i like when a band can make two distinct albums that are good for different reasons.

And I wasn't saying that Judith is one of my favorite songs, it's just that this album has nothing even kinda like Judith.

That's what you get for having the guy from Marylin Manson in your band. You get his share of suckitude on record.

He's actually not a bad musician, same for James Iha... I think it's Maynard's heavy involvement in the musical writing process this time that really hurt the album. Last time Maynard just did that vocals, and that's what he should stick with. Leave the songwriting strictly up to Billy Howerdel. That's what made the first album so damned good.

I like the music on this album. But i do agree that Maynard isn't nearly the song writer that Billy is. However i love the way this album showcases Maynard's voice more than the last one i Maynard's voice.

No way, he stays within the same basic range throughout the entire album. On their first album, it truly showed the wide range of flawless vocals that he is capable of. They were such incredible recordings...

All that energy and emotion... it's nowhere to be found on the new one.

It's been a while since I've heard "Mer de Noms" so I need to pull it out and listen again. But I really do think I like this one better. It speaks to me more than the first one did.

I wish i could see where you're coming from, but i can't.

I have only had the time to listen through this album 2 times (fuck college ) but i hear a much wider range of vocals in this album though the vocals aren't as driven as they were in Mer de Noms, that is he doesn't sound like he's pushing them as much. They seem more technical, so to speak.

So does my penis, but I don't see it winning any Grammy awards.

He's not and they're not. :/ I dunno, maybe you'll see after you listen to it more and listen to Mer de Noms some more as well. The only thing on this album that's on par with the first is the production quality. Howerdel does a superb job with their production.

After listening to this album a few more times I can say that I see your points. This cd however is still a great cd and probably one of my top 10 albums of all time.

I think alot of people are expecting too much from apc with this cd. I really like it so far, though it does have a few flaws. Overall I think if you just stop thinking about how much you want a song to sound and just listen to it and appreciate it, this is a wonderful cd
