Old Dec 1st, 2005, 11:01 PM        New Cable TV idea: a la carte
Anybody seen the story on USA Today Nov 30 2005?

http://www.usatoday.com/money/indust...rte-sell_x.htm

Basically, people are complaining that when they subscribe to Cable TV they get a bunch of channels that they never watch.
So now they are considering charging for every channel.

It might sound like a nice idea at first, but now I'm afraid of what this would do to children if this occured.

Think about it, as a kid did you ever have to pay for any part of Cable TV? What if suddenly your parents signed up for only ABC, CBS, NBC, Lifetime, and HBO (for the Sopranos, but you can't watch it until you're older). How do you convince your parents to pay extra for (name of channel you watch that all parents hate)?

What do you think about this individual channel idea?
Would your parents have charged you for the channels you watched?

This isn't really a new idea. I mean, ever since cable was first invented, people have wanted to have an a la carte option.

I don't see how sending each house it's own unique combination of channels, isn't as expensive as just having bundles

i thought this wasn't so much as a "well, we're considering it" option so much as it is a "FCC says we have to now" option

Fucking FCC, When did they have the right to decide what children were allowed to watch. There was nothing wrong with bundles. Because ordering the channels A La carte would be more exoensive than anything else.
