I guess I'm the exception to the rule, because I was never one to date someone for their looks. But most girls, from what I've seen anyway, don't start to go for guys based on personality till at least the late 20's.

The sad truth is, no girl will ever completely go just for personality. A guy may be awesome to hang out with, and that's cool, but if he's not good to look at, then it's all over between the two and it'll probably be nothing more than a minor friendship.

Then again, you can see someone and say "They're the ugliest person ever" and then you'd get to know them and they'd be nice to you and, as if it was some type of illusion, they'll get prettier...so I don't know :/

Looks aren't nearly as important to women as they are to men.

That being said, women won't ever date you just because you are a "nice guy." Personality is crucial, but it's more confidence/self-esteem based. Women are attracted to men who believe in themselves and are "with it," so to speak. That's why money and success are aphrodisiacs--because they signal a competent, successful man.

i was shallow as fuck when i was a teenager. i wouldn't have dated anyone i didn't consider my "type." i actually went out with several guys just because they drove jeeps. how gay.
it took deciding to love someone regardless of his appearance to get over it. he was a soulful, funny, songwriting guitar player, and he dumped me like two weeks later, broke my heart big-time. but i learned a shitload from it. i was nineteen.
