On another forum I visit, they were playing a game where you MS Paint movie scenes, and others guess. Since I hate MS Paint, I used Photoshop instead to paint. But I got carried away, and decided to go for accuracy rather than stick figures and shit.

Basically, I was just loading a picture up, and then using that as a guideline as I painted over it.

In my opinion, they LOOK pretty fucking good. But on the other hand, is this really anything special? I did two pictures so far, and they took an hour or more each, so there was effort put in. But they also look like something that could have been done by lowering the color count on the image.

So, just some input on if this is anything to feel proud of. Thanks.

That was the first one I did, but it doesn't look at good. The solid color on the walls makes it look really half-assed compared to the gritty coloring from the screenshot.

The first posted is Battle Royale, and I put more effort into keeping the little details intact, like the blood spatter.

So what you're saying is that you basically traced these?

If that's the case then no, they're not very special at all.

They still do look nice, though.

Many fine artists make fantastic livings off of tracing photographs and turning them into art. They look much better than this of course, and don't use photoshop.

I think the bottom line here is that it's admirable that you sat and went over this for hours just to get the same kind of look you could have gotten from using some kind of filter or effect, but it's not really impressive considering you could have just used a filter or effect. I imagine if you did this thousands of times, eventually you would gain enough skill to create hyper-realistic images that didn't exist anywhere else.
