I used to buy Tips and Tricks, Gampro, and EGM every month when I was younger. Things have gotten kind of sour since T&T went out of business, Gamepro changing up it's unique layouts and character avatars in favor of being bland. Now without EGM, it's pretty much only Gamepro and Game Informer. Even if I can get all the info online, I enjoy helping out game mags with my business.

Are you serious? Over here, the Mags are as subjective as the sites most of the time, canīt rely on much they say. Also, many of them really donīt have a lot of knowledge about Videogames. At least thatīs the impression I get. Then again, Germany is PC-Gaming-Territory...or was, which also explains some of the Consolebashing, the PC-Mags love to do.

I agree that reading an actual journalist is better. Maybe it's something about ink and paper, but I always feel that something that has been edited and published is more legitimate (if not always more reliable) than a website.

I miss those puzzles Tips and Tricks had in the back of their mags. I love coloring squares in.

You talk about it like everyone on earth doesn't know that (which they do). But he hasn't updated with regularity since 2002. Really, its like you just discovered seanbaby.

The real crime is that with EGM shutting down AND the Wave stopping his column, both sources of regular content from seanbaby are gone. He once said that its hard to write for the internet once you start getting paid to do it. Maybe he'll return to his website.

Maybe he's a masochist? Or a liar. Either or.

There have been plenty of good games since '06. '07 was an awesome year, and while '08 wasn't as awesome, it was still really solid.

Sean Baby only reviews crap. Going by GW's logic Sean Baby should be updating his site every hour.

I'm not saying there aren't still good games, you guys.

I also play shitty games a lot more than you'd think.

Half Life, Metal Gear Solid, The Elder Scrolls, Korean MMOs, the Tales series, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Summon Night, a metric goddamn fuckton of awful point-and-click adventures, the pre-4 Resident Evils, Street Fighter, Diablo, that sort of stuff.

Lately I've been struggling through Silhouette Mirage. Absolute tripe.

Oh god, I played Starfox Adventures about 70% of the way through, and went 80 hours on Tales of Symphonia. And those are probably the worst games ever.

Its like I am reading an artsy film and music forum. Videogames must truely have arrived as a legitimate media if its starting to fill up with pretentious indie fags too.

To be fair, video games are the only media where indie stuff is actually good.

There is always good indie everything to be found, I just wish it didn't enlarge the smug and shrink the dick of 30% of everyone who discovers that.

this may be the most insipid thing anybody has ever typed. independent anything is usually better than the commercialized version because it exists for it's own sake.

I'd say it's 50/50. You've got the games that are charming and fun and are made just to be fun (and not to be marketed as a product). Some are traditional games, and some are totally off-the-wall. When you play a good indie game that was made with love, it's impressive.

Then you have games made by people who..I dunno. The XNA community, for instance, gets a bad rap. Some aspiring developers get wrapped up in this "Games as art wankery" (the creator of Everyday Shooter confesses to falling into this trap during the early development stages). Others try to make this super huge, super epic game and forget basic design principles or set their goals too high. And others just aren't that good at making videogames.

Personally, I'm really hesitant to try new indie games. Bob's Game, for instance, doesn't have a bright outlook.

God, GW is the most pretentious dick ever.

If you think popularity devalues a product then you're obviously prioritising "looking like a faggy nerd" over playing good games. True gamers play games for the sake of playing games not as some kind of lame status symbol.

I think it's far easier and more common to make a great film or book on a low budget than it is to make a great game on a low budget. Of course both exist.
