And I was gone because a mail server program that had been quietly occupying 500K of my computer's memory for several months got in a fight with the newly reconfigured campus network and actually convinced the switch in this building to physically disable my connection. It took us (myself and our wonderfully prompt and effective IT staff) these three weeks to discover the cause of the problem.
