Fawkes died on me...

Finished another playthrough of Fallout 3 on the PC which runs a lot smoother. During Operation Anchorange my achievements weren't calculating on me for some reason so I have to restart it.

It's decent but short. It was worth the purchase and I'm looking forward to the next 2 downloads.

Finally completed this. Really annoying that you can't continue to play after the main quest is complete. You should at least have the option to go back to just before the last part of the quest and explore a bit more. By the time I realised the game was finishing it was too late and I couldn't escape the plot.

It creates a separate save file when you enter the memorial, but that's it.

They're supposedly fixing it in one of the upcoming DC releases.

Yeah I had a quick save at just before the robot reached the water treatment place so I loaded that up and escaped into the wilderness. I kind of hate it though because it feels like I'm breaking the games. It's weird, I shouldn't care because I can still pick up quests and whatnot but it has removed a great deal of immersion for me.

Oh and one other thing that annoyed me at the end:

Spoilers!

You mentioned immersion being broken, but wouldn't it be a bigger immersion-breaker if you just popped up outside the memorial after the credits?

At any rate, I heard a rumor that they plan to fix the crap with Fawkes at the end, as well as not being able to continue playing after the end. Last I heard, they were talking about doing that for the Broken Steel expansion.

lol

and

Yeah it's true but they should've just made it so the end of the game wasn't this big event but rather the days after where people kind of know something went on but it's not had time to have any significant impact on the world. That way we could merrily wander the wasteland until the sequel or expansion comes out.

Has Bethesda finally fixed the "crash every 5 minutes" bug? I haven't been able to play since the Broken Steel patch came out.

Its crashed on me less than the 360 version did, BUT the DLC's are utter shit.

There is so much slow-down and so many freezes that even I can't ignore them. I would not buy them if the content itself wasn't worth it. Point Lookout didn't break as much as Broken Steel was; that was a goddamn slideshow.

Then again, I played the 360 versions and the DLC ran as smooth as the main game did, so it's your call.

PS, I have the PS3 version. The main game is not so crashy, but the DLC is broken. If you're not heavy into Fallout, it's not worth the potential misery.

Fallout 3 crashed maybe... five times for me on the 360. That includes after I got all of the DLC. I did get stuck in one of those rock barriers one time, though. I guess I shouldn't have been trying to jump over it, but come on!

FINALLY got this game after goty version came out and god damn it goes on forever. I felt a little bored at times because it takes so long to get everywhere and I am pretty sure I missed a lot of stuff I can't get again on my way to beating it. I dunno, I got burnt out on it within the first week, I am getting into the DLC but not having much motivation.

And I am a bit late to this party but, are you not allowed to equip the power armor without that expensive anchorage bullshit? I feel sorry for anyone who payed for that shit.

You have to play through the main story until you get someone in the Brotherhood of Steel to teach you how to use the stuff.

Are there any major differences between the GOTY edition and the normal version?

I've been playing this at a friends. I haven't played a game this addicting in a long, long time.

Recently got Eugene (The uber-Minigun) and Lincoln's Repeater.

Ok, I finally got bit. I started a new game and played it this time having a better grip on it, and its tremendously more fun.
I've been sort of ocd-ing it up trying to get max skill and max special stats by the time I reach 30. And trying to do this before I start a single mission.

And its practically designed to be flawlessly replayable. The wasteland is so distinct and varied, with no square mile looking the same that I could explore this game fore another 3 games and not feel too familiar with it.

My problem with games like these is I find an awesome strategy/weapons lineup the first playthrough, and can't bring myself to try other possibly inferior tactics.

bioware and bethesda should never, ever collaborate on an rpg

it'd need to be classified as a controlled substance
