Old Feb 24th, 2003, 03:42 PM        The Evanescence concert we went to last night...
Myself, Doopa, Military Messiah, Protoclown, and some other friends o' his all went to see Evanescence in D.C. last night. It was only a buck thanks to some friends of Proto's who lived there and were able to pick up the tix in person (plus a buck for "service charge" ) so I figured what the hell... easily the cheapest concert I've been to in ages.

Evanescence put on a damned good show. Whenever I hear some new music with a really good vocalist, I always worry that they only sound good cuz it's a studio recording. I worry that they'll sound like utter shit live. Well, that is NOT the case with Amy Lee. Goddamn, that girl can SING.

They were also really cool, staying around a half-hour after the show signing autographs 'n what not. A lot of people were trying to get shirts and photos signed so they could sell 'em on eBay. But not me... I walked right up to Amy and told her I didn't have a ticket or shirt for her to sign. I wanted her to sign something else instead:

I would have had her sign my boob as well, but I didn't want to start a riot.

here's a review of the show from the 9:30 club message board:

ok, so i liked the Bring me to Life song and i decided, why not check out the dollar show. well, much like the record store i work at has CDs for .49 and .99 that are MAYBE worth that much, this concert was adequately priced. Despite from seeing some old friends and picking up tickets to the Sparta/Dredg show, this show was a waste of time.
I missed Carbondale but heard they reminded the crowd of Lit (yikes!)
The Blank Theory wanted really bad to be Linkin Park or something, and despite the fact that the singer looked just like Scott Evil from Austin Poweres and they butchered a Portishead song, i remained optomistic.
Evanescence couldve been called Elvira and the 4 Nerds. She was beautiful yes, but her ONE tone of singing (although she vared on it from high to low) and the bands complete lack of creativity was terrible. In between songs she sounded like Debbie Gibson, and i think she was 19 and 2 dance steps from being Christina Aguilera.
Anyway, did anyone else go to this show? was i just in a bad , critical mood?

on the upnot tho, after talking to the guys from Blank Theory, they were really cool. they just werent quite evil enough

The opening bands were pathetic.

Evanescence, though I know you'd like to hate them since you've heard all of one song, were not. That review sounds like it came from a 12 year old. "optomistic"

yeah. i've heard one song, but i see absolutely nothing in it as potential likable material in my eyes.

i thought the review was funny, that's why i posted it.
