And your MOM's stupid!

Ok, punk was ruined/covered up by increasingly poppy crap. It didn't really die it just never gets noticed.

If punk is Blink 182 and Good Charlotte then yes, Punk does indeed suck nads.

But the reality of it is that this is not punk. real punk is bands like NOFX, Rancid, the Distillers, Lagwagon, Bad Religion, and 100s of other bands like them.

It's kinda gay when some of you knock something you don't know shit about. That would be like me saying Metal sucks because the only "metal" i've ever heard is Linkin' Park.

Actually, I seriously can't tell the difference between NOFX and SUM 41. But other than that, yeah.

The sad thing that happened to NOFX is so many bands tried to be just like them. I saw NOFX on the S&M Airlines tour. Punk, Hardcore, Rock, Muzak...I don't care what you call it, they were bad ass. By the next time they came around, they had picked up the beaner for the Ribbed tour. GODDAMN! it was good too.

Voice - Loud, whiny, look at me I'm white and a rebellious asshole.
Instrumentation - Greenday with more distortion.
Lyrics - Sometimes vaguely funny shit, sometimes about how much I hate something.

I dare you to tell me if I'm talking about Sum 41 or NOFX.

That's where the similarties end. Sum 41 is 500x more poppy, and almost all their songs are about relationships and crap. NOFX is about social hilarity and poking fun at politics. Plus they sound 500x more punk and underground than Sum 41. I mean come on, Sum 41 is on TRL and shit...

NOFX does NOT sound more "undergroud" than Sum 41, whatever the hell that means.

Lagwagon is NOT a punk band.

fin.

1. By "underground" I mean less refined and studio-mixed. a rawer sound.

2. Lagwagon is punk you dipshit. They are merely a more melodic expressive form of punk. less scream and more thought in other words.

3. If you think NOFX and Sum 41 sound the same you are obviously either, deaf or a fool who doesn't know shit about what he's talking about.

Cuz that can't be reproduced in a nice, expensive studio, right? Have ya heard the Strokes?

Yeah, sooo much thought goes into songs like "sleep."

It's great to see today's youth fighting so passionately to defend their scene. Preach on man, don't let the "real" punk rockers like NOFX get polluted by allowing them to be compared to "pop" punk like Sum-41.

If you let that happen, you'll have to stop liking NOFX because it won't be cool anymore!

Let me make this clear. Punk as a movement is dead. The last bands with any message to their music came out of the mid eighties nardcore scene, refering of course to Black Flag, False Confession, et al. . .Including NOFX.

Here is a sample of what I consider punk based on the scene I experienced as a kid:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Punk: GG Allin and the Murder Junkies

Not-Punk: Lagwagon.

Punk: Souxsie Sou and the Banshees pre-1983

Not Punk: Sid Vicious or Jonny Rotten

Punk: The Addicts

Not Punk: The Strokes

Punk: Crass

Not Punk: Exploited

Punk: Operation Ivy

Still Punk: Rancid (if only because of Lint)

note: I was in High School in San Francisco, the biggest bands we used to watch over at Gilman St and Berkeley Square were AFI, The Vandals, Jughead's Revenge, Offspring and Green Day. With the exception of Green Day, there were all on Nitro Records and played the local venues for around five to seven bucks a show. Of course, this was when Offspring's album Ignition was out, and Green Day was doing 30,000 Slapped Out Happy Hours. Regardless, they all supported the local scene in the Bay Area and I can't help but think of them as Punk in spirit, if not message.

Was going to add Guttermouth, but I only remember them playing once. Might not have been a local band.

The Exploited were punk but their later stuff is more metal..

Operation Ivy isn't really punk by definition (more ska) but they are my favorite band. I even don't mind Jesse Michael's new stuff with Common Rider (for the latest album I got his autograph too).

I guess who really cares what is what, if the music is good then that's all you need.

There's nothing wrong with Blink. Btw, don't you hate it when you wear a shirt with a band name on it, and then some hillbilly calls you a poser and says you aren't punk?
