Does this always happen, or only when you visit certain websites?

What's happening is that the original IE process started running a script that opens a new copy of IE over and over and over and over. It's one of those things that's designed to crash your computer eventually.

You might have some kind of spyware installed, or you visited a website that had a script like that on it. A good example is the link in Number Guy's signature (or what used to be... too lazy to check).

This has never happened before.

And now that you mention it, I think I did visit a site like that (someone pranked me).

How do I fix it?

Just reboot. That should do it.

I tried that.

I'm 100% sure it's a virus.

When I open the IE folder, there are two iexplore.exe's

I changed the filename of the real iexplore.exe to iexplore1, so that maybe it wouldn't trigger the virus.

Then I went and deleted all the iexplores from the Task Manager and managed to delete the fake iexplore.exe from the folder before it respawned (AND empty the recylcing bin)

But it happened AGAIN, and it's still going

I'm downloading tons of virus software, because when this thing gets going, it eats my virtual memory and my computer comes to a grinding halt.

Any tips now?

Don't read shitty spam e-mail that forwarded from your friends?

Check your Startup folder, and run some spyware detectors.

There's a few other places in Windows to check for startup scripts or something, but I can't remember where exactly. One is in system.ini, I think and the other is in the registry.

WHERE IS WHOREABLE?

Go to start menu (programs) then "accessories" then to "system tools" down to "system information" in that window click on "tools" go down to "system configuration utility" then to tha last tab in that window (far right) click on "startup" then look for anything that shouldnt be booting (or does not sound famaliar) and un-check it, reboot and see if that doesnt clear it up, go back in there if you have to until you find it (good luck)
