Yeah, it should definitely be one of the best films this year. I can not wait!

Skimmed through the summary at imdb to get a feel yet not get everything spoiled, and it looks interesting. Nobody can do a part-comedy role in a semi-serious movie like Murray. Fine line.

Good film, not great as many have claimed. The accolades you can read about elsewhere. I think the flaws lie with the direction and editing, which impede its flow and make it less captivating than it should have been. Also, a theme of the movie is finding someone who 'speaks your language' (in other words, understands where you're coming from) in a detached and absurdly alienating world. Problem is, the rapport between the two leads doesn't resonate well on screen and itself feels detached when it should feel intense. The movie's cinematography is so much about evoking moods, and it does the cold, alienating, overload-to-the-point-of-comedy thing well, but not their friendship. By themselves, Bob and Charlotte are captivating but together, they are boring.

Great, great film. Wonderful. I enjoyed it immensely; definitely getting this on DVD. Murray is still the shit after all these years, which is awesome. And I completely disagree that they lacked chemistry, since it was their scenes together that lifted the film above it's meandering "follow a regular day"-type scenarios. Murray and Johansen were really great together, and deserve the praise they are receiving.

Going to develop on what I said a bit. Feel free to argue.

The relationship between Bob and Charlotte is obviously a complicated one, with a sexual tension that IMO should be portrayed as not only inappropriate, but perverse. Their mutual understand should be intense, almost spiritual. At least that's what I think. Maybe it's not so much a problem with Sophia's direction but with the lack of chemistry between the two. As I said, the individual performances are great. Also, the ending was hokey and sort of lame.

Saw it last night, really enjoyed it, but I'm having difficulty making any objective criticism, b/c I'm a huge Bill Murray fan.

I agree with spinstress that some of it was a bit over done, but I felt that visually the film was excellent. I disagree however that Bill and his co-star lacked chemistry together. I thought their dry conversation and stiff rapport was appealing rather than detracting, but that's just me.

"with a sexual tension that IMO should be portrayed as not only inappropriate, but perverse. "

Why though? I mean, yeah, it can be seen as creepy, but they are both consenting adults. It's not like Murray could take advantage of her; she has a Philosphy degree from a prestigous College, so she should be able to take care of herself.

I found the ending sweet, and almost transcendental. He left something with her that would leave a bond between them for life. I think everyone has had a moment like they did in the hotel where they say good-bye to someone they just had a close friendship with for a couple days. It can be a painful experience knowing you'll never see that person again.

I saw the movie this afternoon. One of the best I've seen all year, but I agree with Jeff...to a point. I thought they were boring together at first, and kind of preferred them seperately. But once they got to know each other, I enjoyed seeing them together and the joy they brought to each other.

I recommend this film.
