I wanted to make an artsy movie with some pictures but I kinda like these just as a series. I was having a real hard time with the focus, and I just screwed up a bunch of pics. Any feed back would be awesome.

I like 3rd on the top row, and 3rd and 4th on the bottom row.

Could you explain the signifigance of the lighter? If there's not something important to it, then it doesn't make sense for a lighter to be in all these obscure places and it detracts from the quality in a way. At least to me.

Anyway, could you also tell me what kind of lighter (Zippo? But what make/model?) that is and where I could buy it?

It wasn't my lighter, It was my friends and he gave it to me to model with for his picutres. I don't smoke so I don't anywhere besides walmart to get zippos.

We went to a parking garage and I decided to take different pictures and put them into a kinda journey movie sequence for the lighter. I think I'm still gonna try that but I like seeing them as a series. To me it looks like the lighter belongs there among the rest of the industrial background, but in a different way it stands out. I wish I had more with the flame lit, but the idea hadn't crossed my mind last night for some reason.

I have more pictures that my friend hasn't uploaded yet

I think that's a good idea. I'm no artist, but when I see industrial settings, I see chaos, and that's not what I see with a neatly placed lighter on a well focused background. But, I like your direction.

the last 2 are really good. nice composition and monotone color.

the others, while i like the idea, i think you need to pay more attention to your lines. industrial settings tend to be linear and straight. a lot of your photos have a nice feel to them compositionally, but are slightly off because of camera tilt or even the placement of the lighter. if you want to get the feel that this lighter has been placed there, you need to make it really look like someone took the time to place it.

for example: the snap with the lighter on the grid would benefit from moving the lighter just a bit so it lined up with the grid lines beneath. of course, this is just my opinion.

technically, you're right. your focus is a bit off. i'm not sure what kind of camera you are using or the extent of your knowledge when it comes to how a camera works. i can help you with that stuff if you have any questions, though.

Thanks

I think the camera was a sony cybershot. I was shooting with retro kat and he basically told me how to take the pictures and let me go from there. I was planning on going back into photoshop and trying to mess around with sharpen tool, but now I kinda of like the way they are. I might take some of the ones I feel are stronger and put them in the breadth of my ap portfolio.

I have a few more that I think I'll resize and post tommorow.

Subject-wise, I like the first one and the last two. The others have the lighter too obviously placed there.

Yeah I kinda wanted it to look like the lighter wasn't put somewhere haphazardly, but I think the ones I think that one's lying on the ground have there charm too.

Here are the rest of the ones that I took that night.

I woulda liked this one more if I took some of the shots better. I guess I'm looking at this set as a learning experience
