I never smoked when I was a kid because I was too cool for peer pressure, and also too lame to be in the cool group that smoked.

Cigarette Smoke isn't that bad once you find out the stuff you breath all day long living in an urban environment. BTW, doesn't TAB soda cause cancer too?

a short list of every day items i've been told will give me cancer. If I made a list of every day things that can simply "kill you" it would be very very long.

Deodorant
Bras
Coffee
Beer
Plastic containers
Styrofoam cups
Vitamin E (anti-oxidant?)
Talc Powder
Cell Phones
Potato Chips
Polyester
Used Motor Oil
Suntan lotion (fucking ironic huh?)

actually, i think this list should become an ongoing post in and of itself we can all add to.

BTW The argument isn't about smoke. It's about rights. Bars and businesses are private establishments. If you don't smoke, and it bothers you, why the hell not just go to a bar that's smoke free? There were plenty of them already. Why then not make it illegal for a bar to be a sports bar, or a gay bar, or a biker bar simply because it's not your demographic?

In otherwords, this is America and you have the right to choose. The anti-smokers took away my right to choose as well as the business owners right to.

What about those who choose not to smoke but have to breathe your toxic exhaled by-product? What about their right to choose not to breathe that shit in? I guess none of that matters as long as you get what you want though right?

oh man, i wish i could hop in and call anyone who bitched about cigarette smoke in a BAR a pussy, but i got a funny story on that subject; back in coos bay, the bar at the indian casino heavily encouraged smoking, but every time i ordered a scotch and lit up a cigar every single cigarette smoker that wasn't in my group would bitch loudly about MY smoking, so I'm not very sympathetic

Here's a short list of everyday items that only effect those who choose to use them in terms of impact on physical health and that do not have a toxic exhaled by-product

Bras
Coffee
Beer

Styrofoam cups
Vitamin E (anti-oxidant?)
Talc Powder

I have to laugh at the smokers counter argument "well item x causes cancer too, why aren't we bitching about that?" It is a very transparent attempt to draw attention away from the issue at hand. The fact is, none of you smokers would have this problem if you weren't so weak minded that you had to let yourself get addicted to smoking in the first place. All you had to do was turn down that first offered cigarette you chose (yes chose) to say yes to, and you would not be complaining about your freedom now because your freedom would be unaffected by smoking bans. You exercised your freedom of choice when you chose to take that first drag. Now your free choice has a consequence (consequences such as your addiction and control over your life and freedoms said addiction has such as forcing you outside to smoke)

Freedom of choice does not include freedom from personal responsibility.

If you don't like what I'm doing, stay away. You have other places to go, I'm not forcing you to go where the smoke is. If I don't like the atmosphere of a place, I stay the fuck away, I don't try to tell someone to change their menu, pricing, furniture, clientel etc just because it makes me happy. I go somewhere else that fits me.

the irony is that this state somehow keeps getting closer to legalizing marijuana

Couldnt almost the same be said about non-smokers walking into bars where smoking is allowed.
