Well, he said we wouldn't "withdraw from the world," or something. I think that's the right approach to take, rather than capitulating to the worthless scum who did this.

The leader of the kidnapping, who is also dead now, said that Johnson was just getting a taste of what other Arabs get all of the time from American Apache choppers. I don't doubt that, however I'd be interested to see just how much suffering the leaders of Al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia have gone through. I mean, we all know that Bin Laden comes from the salt of the earth, right?

I didn't know that Apache pilots could fly their helicopters upside down to chop of heads.

I have to admit that I am somewhat skeptical of the Saudis. I'm about 2/3rds of the way through "Ghost Wars" by Steve Coll which is a brilliant analysis of the CIA's work in Afghanistan since the laste 70s. It also includes a lot of info about Pakistan and the role of the Saudis in the affair.

Based partly upon that, and partly upon what we've seen in the last few years, I find it slightly odd that mysteriously within hours of the murder, Saudi security forces were somehow able to track down the man who claimed responsibility and kill him in a shoot out.

The timing is suspicious. Further, the reports yesterday indicated that Saudi security had received a tip from someone witnessing Johnson's body being dumped which led them to the Al Qaeda members, a chase ensued, and ultimately ended in a Riyhad neighborhood.

Put at the press conference today the story was that Saudi security agents were out combing the streets for days and just happened to come across these folks and trapped them on a street in a neighborhood when the shoot out occurred.

I understand the nature of early news reports, but neverthless there is some doubt in my mind as to how the whole thing went down. It just seems a little suspicious to me.

Isn't that how those children died in the Twilight Zone movie?

I see no problem with dehumanizing the people who kill our innocent civilians. When did we become so incredibly tolerant that we stopped hating the people who want to kill us?

Anyway, I'm in agreement with GAsux on the Saudis. There's something a little too convenient about the way this supposedly went down.

I never understood why "human" is a necessarily positive thing and to "dehumanize" means "to strip of redeeming value."

Because the majority of people don't despise themselves or others, only misanthropes & satanists would be so full of self-hate to feel such a way as you do.

You see, in the Twilight Zone movie, there was an accident, and a helicopter crashed. It crushed a little girl and beheaded a little boy and the lead actor.

So that's the joke. You know?

WOAH. THE SAUDIS AREN'T THE BEST FRIENDS THAT OUR ADMINISTRATION PAINTS THEM AS?

I'M FUCKING SHOCKED.
REALLY.
HONESTLY.

I'M LYING MY ASS OFF.

What in the bloody fucking hell is wrong with you two that you haven't been suspect of these desert rats from day one? The Saudis are even bigger geopolitical whores than the administration we've got fighting terrorist organizations that they were funding twenty years ago, and President Bozo is willing to do just about anything to keep them happy, including throwing bin Laden's family members at them within hours of the WTC/Pentagon attacks.

Why are you guys just now coming to this remarkable epiphany?
You've both got brains, use them.

So um, Davin,
Thanks for the spanking. Apparentely I needed a time out? I thought I was pretty clear that I mentioned the historical context, and was specifically referring to this incident.

I don't recall ever saying at any point that I used to think the Saudi's were really super, but have now decided that maybe we can't trust them.

Perhaps you're trying too hard to find a reason to argue.

How come that other victim, Robert Jacobs didn't get half the parade Johnson's getting?

And how come this Korean guy is begging for his life in English, rather then his native tongue?

Well obviously this Korean can, he worked as a translator, but why is he appealing to Westerners through English rather then to his own Government in Korean. It just struck me as curious.

Oh, and not everyone outside the US can speak more then one language. It's not like you're born bilingual in Asian countries.

Apparently there's no moral difference now between intentionally and unintentionally killing people.
