The use of stem cells from cord blood could also point to a way to side-step the ethical dispute over the controversial use of embryos in embryonic stem-cell research.
Let's read the article, folks.

Bush supports non-embryonic research, which means that if this truly worked, you'll still see it pursued here in America.

So this procedure was not done with embryotic stem cells but with cord blood stem cells. Regardless, is embryotic stem cell research actually banned in the US? I thought Bush just put a stop to the federal funding of it?

I think it's only the Government funding that Bush is against....Private funding is ok.

why is stem cell research 'unethical' is it because its jesus' job to get handicapped people walking again? a bit like how cloning is 'playing god'.

Stem cell research isn't what is considered unethical. Its when the cells come from aborted fetuses (or whatever the plural is).

And it really warms my heart to see that people have seen fit to put some sort of political spin (no matter how fucked up they have the facts) instead of celebrating the gifts these women have just received and trying to see a medical breakthrough in an optimistic light.

Way to have some perspective there, folks.

Embryos, whatever.

I was more interested in voicing my feelings about the tone of the thread.
