Legend of dragoon was a pretty goood one, but it wasn't anywhere near the league of the FF series. The dragoon system was cool though. Too bad the characters weren't very likable.

Fei from Xenogears (you know he kicked all ass when he got the System ID ability)
Magus (Chrono Trigger.. I can't BELIEVE you guys, especially some of you inclined towards Sephiroth, forgot about Magus)
Aya (Parasite Eve.. if you consider it an RPG)
Squall (FF VIII)

Also, I admit, I'm a cheater. I use GameShark on any RPGs. Not because I cheat wholeheartedly, but when you've gotta divide your time between work, a girlfriend and car repairs (AAARGH!!) do YOU really have time to sit there and level up your characters?

I KNOW I'm not alone on this.
