Haiti actually isn't short of food. Unfortunately, its caught up in bureaucracy in their ports.
The article also seems to stress countries that are known for exponentially growing populations, huge poverty rates, and lousy government infrastructure. Of course the shit will hit the fan when the world economy has a downturn.
And as much as you want to take a shot at Big Oil and Bush, food production is actually something like 8x a bigger industry than oil (which isn't even a top 5 industry) and those companies have never seemed too interested in addressing the issue.
