The name change was there to diffrentiate itself from the "360" thing from xbox. that's one of the official reasons apprently

i think the japanese just can't pronounce Revolution or some shit.

See, I heard that too, about the Japanese not being able to pronounce "Revolution" easily, but hey, they already have "Dance Dance Revolution" over there, and nobody seems to complain about that. Somehow, I have a feeling "Dance Dance Wii" wouldn't have been as big a success.

I don't think that's the case. I've met japanese peopel that can't even say "map", so Wii wouldn't be much easier.

Maybe Nintendo just named it the Wii because they knew everyone would make a big deal out of it. Yes, most of the publicity is bad, but at least the name is getting out there.

In this case, what does it matter about getting the name out there, though. They are fucking Nintendo, just like how Tom Cruise doesn't need to marry Katie Holmes. He's Tom fucking Cruise, man, and Nintendo is fucking Nintendo. In this case, yeah, the publicity is bad, though.
