I collect some vinyl. I have three sections...

Old (pre-1990's), obscure stuff... Probably around 150 lp's and 50 ep's.
Old (pre-1990's), popular stuff... Probably around 250 lp's and 400 ep's.
New stuff... Probably around 550 lp's and 150 ep's.

Nothing special, but if I had the money, oh boy... I must admit to buying cd when I can, unless the vinyl offers something special.

RT: Its a bit fucking sad to laugh at someone because they 'only have 200 cds'. So you have lots more, yes? what are the chances of a good proportion of them being absolute cack?

I hear that most bands sound better on vinyl. Such as Big Black and Shellac.

I've got plenty of CDs but I still love vinyl. Sure you can't play it in a car but you can make a tape. Sure a tape sounds like hell, but it is it's own protective case (for the most parts).
Another reason I like vinyl is the flea markets. You can find some old stuff that most folks don't care about. Lucky me, I found some Eddie Peabody, dirt cheap.

Hey, back from vacation to reply to this little monster of a post I've created. I like collecting vinyl for a few reasons.

A. It's cheaper; I scored two Lou reed albums, the Deer Hunter Soundtrack, Southside Johnny, and a few more for under 9 bucks each, most under 3 bucks.

B. It's cool; come on, how can you not like owning the orignal of your favorite album, it's like a relic from the past.

C. They're nice and big, good hanging material. Where a CD is a small case, a record is like a work of art. It's like owning a little mural.

I don't really buy into the whole better sound thing. I'm sure it's there if it can be techincally explained, but I don't notice a difference.

Do yourself a favor. Leave the boards, you arrogant, elitist little simp. You offer absolutely nothing of value to any conversation, just as your tastes in the arts offer nothing of value to the listener or viewer 90% of the time.

That's only because Steve Albini makes sure their cd's sound worse than their vinyl's.

No, because Mock's opinion is probably the one I least respect in the whole boards. Which is sad, when you consider that you post here too.

Whose opinions do you respect, RT? Everyone else just voices what they like, and people agree or disagree. You, on the other hand, make a point of calling everyone you have the least dissent with a retard scumbag nobody, who should immeadatley pick up a gun and blow their brains out. Chill out, it's just music. You just come across as a pedantic loser who's out to prove to everybody how sophisticted your tastes are. Instead, you just piss everyone of, and turn discussions into flame wars.
