Just thought those of you who are fans of the band would like to know that there's a new album called "Year Zero" coming out on April 17th. It's nice that they finally didn't take 5+ years to put out another album. I just hope it's better than their last one cuz I wasn't a fan of 90% of the stuff on that one. Granted that's partially because I thought "The Fragile" was the best thing they had ever done, but still, the last album was a big step down if ya ask me.

So the story begins some days ago when a load of websites started turning up suposedly from the furture.

Some enterpriseing person worked out if you viewed the static at the end of the track through some kind of spectrum analyser you could see the image of "the presence":

There's more of a story behind it.

Opal/Parepin is somehow the cause of The Presence. It seems to be a sort of hallucination.

Opal is the drug that the government used to rid the country of cocaine possibly for economic gain - as stated in various sound clips, no one has an interest in coca leaves anymore and everyone is hooked on Opal from America.

Parepin is the substance the administration puts into the water to boost immune systems and protect us from bio-terrorism, but those who haven't drank water in a while reveal that they have more clarity and feelings than most other citizens who routinely drink it.

It's basically a form of mind control, and although I'm not sure the *exact* link it holds, it fits in somewhere. There's also an Evangelical Church integrated into the story, and perhaps they have some connection to releasing or creating the substances, because The Presence seems like some sort of reminder of God. When people see it, they freak the hell out. Church/Govt/Mind control - all related.

It's all really cool if you ask me.

so tracks continue to leak on flash drive found in bathrooms (so far we have "my violent heart," "survivalism," and the brand-new-still-downloading "me, I'm Not"), which is all fantastically hilarious. and the bonus that this album is shaping up to be very different and very much BETTER than "with teeth" is pretty welcome as well.
the concept has the whole overblown "green day aint got shit on this" kind of deal, and i dont trust reznor to really write his way through his ideas satisfactorily, but i'm willing to go along with it because it seems to be very invested and pretty cool overall.
i'm digging the spectral analysis messages going too. there was an mp3 on the same flash drive that "me, i'm not" was, which put through the same thing results in

Also, if you pause it at just the right moment when the car drives by the road sign, you'll notice that the blue road sign says "I am trying to believe". There's also numbers 'n stuff in some of the frames.

I'm pretty sure there's something written in the dirt in the hills before the hand appears. The hills in the background. I can't make out what it says, but it looks like there's something written into them in the dirt.

Whether the album turns out to be good or not, this is an awesome concept and I'm loving every bit of it so far. Notice the static at the end of each audio clip that's been released? Sounds like morse code.

trent said he doesnt mean this to be marketing but a large art experiment. and the more that gets added to this thing the more i'm going along with that. it's so much fun that the album isnt starting to matter so much. and plus it's not going to live up to it because trent could never write himself out of a paper bag anyway.

'in this twilight' sounds like it took a page from akira yamaoka for the intro, then barrels on with the typically great textures and trents vocals are kinda pushed to the back in favor for all the noise coming out. not bad, but def seems to be one to work within the album rather than a standalone

theres also a new site dedicated in memoriam to los angeles, which was poisoned via dirty bomb at the 81st academy awards

I really like the latest song. The others where so-so and not that memorable but 'In This Twilight' is fantastic. Trent's vocals seems different that usual but I like the change in this song.

i kept trying to post in this thread about the solution backwards thing and how it all pretty much explains everything about these future sites with the whole 'quantum data' that they were using but it actually exploded my browser and made me lose an article i worked hard to find so i just stayed away from i-mock.

so yeah, they used quantum data to push all the information back 15 years, which is why the websites look all fucked up and fragmented, because it was a one time shot of massive data flooding where the authorities promptly killed every american involved.

it felt kind of asinine watching a chat log unfold but it was a good story and explained a lot of why those websites were there in the context of the story.

as far as music goes, theres a radio rip of "the beginning of the end" which continues the 'pretty good' aspect of everything else weve heard.
