Demogorgon is probably a spambot
Old Aug 26th, 2004, 10:39 PM        Philosophy of mockery?
Has anyone ever taken the time aside to logically think of mocking others and the effects it may have? I understand it can have the prime motives of making one feel superior, projection, fun criticization, and a good laugh. But aside from the more carnal attractions, do you think it is better for the world to have more mockers? Does it make you live a fuller life?
I understand most can not part from their mocking ways for a little intellectualization on the topic, but what better place to discuss mockery then I-mockery? Hopefully someone can use moderation.

{I love philosophy, but can't help but laugh at the ignorance all around me in a cynical way.}
(Waiting for someone to completely ignore everything I said to point out a spelling error).

I'd like to point out that "criticization" is NOT a word in the English language, therefore you suck.

I declare this thread to be OVER.

If you mock, you can't be mocked.

What the hell is wrong about taking things seriously? I'm okay with a bit ok mocking when the topic is stupid or unimportant, but to mock a topic that is interesting to talk about, that is a complete waste.

I don't understand it. Well, I do understand it. Like I said above, if you mock, you're on the right side. But I don't do it.

You can tell that people are actively looking for things to make fun of in other peoples posts. How is that fair, and most importantly, how the hell does that make for good conversation?

I know what I prefer to read. It's not yet another dumb joke. It's a serious post. And that doesn't mean the subject is serious, but that the person tries hard to make himself understood.

Basically, I like it when people aren't afraid to say something.

As for what the world would be like without mocking, I really couldn't say. I think mocking will always exist.

AChimp: Called shot
Helm and Chojin: You guys are hilarious...
McMock: If you mock, you are on the right side? How does that make sense? Mocking is more of a test of crude intelligence and rudeness than of being "right".
And yes, this proves most mockers will not or can not remove themselves from jest for some serious discussion. It's like children: "You're dumb" "You're a poophead!" "Hey guys, why do we yell at each other?" "Shutup dumbface!"

See, now, if this site was called I-philosiphy, I'd be right with you. Or say if it was a joint called I-holier than thou.

But you're on a golf course saying "All this gold is well and good but are you contributting to the betterment of Candelpin Bowling? have you thought of that, sir?"

Laughter in all it's forms is a worthwhile pursuit in and of itself. Humor is an artform every bit as worthy if not more so than Philsophy which at the amateur level is generally no better than navel gazing and often more self centered than masturbation.

I'm sure the internet is chock full of sites you can go think deep thoughts. In the meantime I respectfully request you put on this Japanese schoolgirl outfit and blow me.

Well, it doesn't hurt to ask!

Come on. This is the philosophy forum. It's not the 'let's all mock each other in threads with philosophy-flavoured topics' forum.

If you wanna take that golf analogy, you have to make it me, being on a cours where everybody is playing some kind of hybrid golf where they suck the balls around with vaccuums, and I go: "hey, why don't we play some golf instead?"

I mean... a philosophy forum... it's meanth for philosophy, isn't it? No matter if it's on i-mockery or where-ever.

Yeah, I hear what your saying. Like, with me any way, there's this little convenience store down the road called the "Puget Pantry" (it's called that becuase the store is located on Puget street, haw haw haw.) The other day I decided to bike over to the store and by some candy or something, I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted. I go in there, look around for a while, and eventually find these Klondike bars that aren't actually Klondike bars but cookie-ice cream sandwiches made by Klondike. They have a price tag and it says they are $1.99, I figure they must be pretty good if they charge two dollars for it so I went ahead and got it. I go up to the counter and give him two bucks and then start going through my wallet looking for change.

You know what the cashier does?

He gives me back a penny!

There is NO TAX at the Puget Pantry! When they say their klondike ice cream sandwiches are $1.99 they MEAN their klondike ice cream sandwiches are $1.99! The honesty in their advertising really warmed my heart. Since that encounter I have gone back to the store many times, becuase even if they over charge on their food in order to stay in business, and least they are honest about it.

This IS the philosophy forum, try reading through some of the threads, there's alot of intellectual bullshit smeared on the walls if you just look for it. Don't be so pissy just because yours got targetted for the mockery, starting a thread on here is like gambling, unless you're one of the "In" crowd. Then y ou have nothing to worry about, no matter how stupid you are.

You guys make me smile.

Mburbank: Odd you'd speak of "philosiphy" like you know something... I mean the proper spelling isn't in the forum title... And I see the philosophy section of i-mockery, the two main topics here, your analogy is just 'fucktarded'. Not to mention you then go on about how laughter is an art-form in a near-philosophical manner on 'the golf course'. Damn, you're an idiot.

Achimp: Poor guy isn't getting his way. Just pretend the thread doesn't exist, ok? I promise it won't haunt you.

Kahljorn: If you can organize those thoughts, you may have something really worth reading.
