Old May 15th, 2004, 12:21 AM        Bishop: Bar communion for pro-choice voters
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/...eut/index.html

Yet another fuckhead bishop, Michael Sheridan of Colorado Springs, is butting into the political arena, demanding that Catholics who even vote for pro-choice politicians be barred from communion. His explanation?

Quote:
"Any Catholic politicians who advocate for abortion, for illicit stem cell research or for any form of euthanasia ipso facto place themselves outside full communion with the church and so jeopardize their salvation," the bishop wrote in a letter published this week in the diocesan monthly newspaper, the Herald. "Any Catholics who vote for candidates who stand for abortion, illicit stem cell research or euthanasia suffer the same fateful consequences," he added.
Well, I guess that means every Catholic Democrat is going to hell. In that case, I can only hope that there will be plenty of pedophile clergymen down there to keep them company.

And people wonder why the church is struggling.

because catholicism is about judging rather than salvation and forgiveness anyway.

Why did the altar boy sit in an ice chest?

'Cause Father O'Malley likes a cold one after Mass.

THANK YOU!

I wonder if the bishop's little decree applies to those who vote for pro-choice Republicans.

This is more reflective of political pressure from Boston than from Rome. You can't blame the Pope for being consistent in the Church's doctrine. He condemned the war in Iraq, too.

You can however blame the conservative bishops, and the conservative mouth pieces in Boston such as that dolt from the Catholic League, Bill Donahue. I wouldn't be surprised if this pressure is coming from the Bush camp.

There are many more Catholics around the country who are still doing "the Lord's work." For example, the priest and nuns who were just released from jail for protesting the rotten SOA in Georgia. Not excluding the various Catholic organizations and activists that fought for years against the sanctions in Iraq, and likewise opposed this war. Catholic Charities also do a countless number of good deeds around the country, and the world.

This public call for the denial of the eucharist is shameful and opportunistic. I am fine with Catholics calling out Liberals for their inconsistencies, but to deny someone the eucharist on political, pro-Bush grounds is outrageous. I hope that Congresswoman Pelosi and others follow through and release the recent analysis on ALL members of Congress, and how their voting patterns conflict with the Church's teachings (ie. war resolution, capital punishment, defunding welfare programs, etc.).
