Is anyone familiar with this process?
I have two computers hooked up to the router, one wired and the other wireless, and I am not sure which of the 3 mac addresses I have to change, and what values to change them to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im not really a network person but i was under the assumption you dont ever really need to mess with mac addresses and they are unchageable without some technical trickery?

You shouldn't have to change MAC addresses for anything. Newer routers can clone them, but for what reason, I don't know. Don't really care either.

Thats what I get for listening to the punjab tech support guy. Before I was getting a wireless connection that dropped, and now I get no connection at all and an ip address of 169.xxx.xx.xx. Last time I listen to anyone that calls me "Mr. Edward"

heh, what did you do? change the MAC addresses?

I would *think* you could reset them but its not the sort of thing that the manufacturers expect people to be doing so there is every chance you cant.

Also try refreshing the IP addresses or mabey even just manually put them in instead of letting windows decide what they should be (if thats what your doing).

Note: as i said, i have very limited network troubleshooting experties so take everything is suggest with a grain of salt.

cloning the mac address in the router is sometimes used to help keep connections with isps. you cant change the mac in a system cause it is hardcoded inside the nic.

can you see the wireless network at all?

Just use your setup disk(s) and or cd to re-establish a connection with that wireless point of yours (flash the mac to the router from the modem) or run window's nifty little proggy called "internet connection wizard" and re-boot your computer to see what happens. thats what i usualy do. other shite can broadcast within your network range killing a connection. see if its little johnnys wireless game controller knocking you off from downstairs/next door... you never know. (wireless blows-meh. bogged down connections)
