the man has been around, making music and generally being a scary, scary individual for 28 years, and his new album "real gone" is my long put off introduction to him.

christ, i can't emphasize how scary this man is.

and it's not that overt stuff where they threaten to do violence or anything lame like that, but it's his voice. it's a deep, guttural hateful growl that uses blood for spit and burns fire on your speakers.
i could not fucking believe it.
the musicians he hires are amazing, they play as if they face a menacing, slow lurch towards something horrible. they're also able to keep time (though awkward) to his stumbling, awesome (if discernible) lyrics.

they're like a band you find in the back of someone's shack with paranoid graffiti scrawled on it. you're not sure if you're going to leave alive because the lead man is leering at you with a shotgun and a bottle of whiskey. and then they break into frigtening, but really genius music..

Muahahaha. Another convert.

The more you listen to Tom, Rez, the more you will like him. Nearly everything in his catalogue is worth a listen.

I've got just about everything of his, including a number of bootlegs. If you're interested, PM me with your IM screen name, and I'll send you some goodies.

Swordfish Trombone, Rain Dogs and Alice tie for my favorites. I like everything fomr agter he moved to island Records, and probably would like his earlier stuff if his later stuff wasn't so massively better.

It's only on a Disney album as far as I know, but he did cover of "Pink Elephants on Parade" from Dumbo that will rock your world.
