All Hail Duke is probably a spambot
Old Mar 14th, 2011, 06:05 PM        question
anyone here ever enter into an art show?

it'll be my first and i'm gonna go get the entry form tomorrow and wondered if anyone has any tips

i don't have much in the way of feelings so being judged isn't going to bother me (especially since i know my stuff is garbage) and fully expect to get rejected or come in dead last

I have helped 3 people with their art show.

Everything depends on the wall you hang your art. you should pick your pieces based on the color and texture of the wall along with the size of space you are to use.

Try not to create an environment were people want to walk past you space, you want them to walk up and have a look for a few seconds. So don't fill your space with everything you have, or even your favorite piece. If the piece you are the most proud of blends into the background, no one is even going to look at it. Cramming a bunch of small peices together is horrible on the eyes as well, try to space them so that people don't have to touch shoulders when they look at them.

Any of this making any sense? That's about all I could tell you without knowing what your space looks like and all the pieces you want to display.

Also, always price your stuff high. No ones going to buy it anyways (unless you are well known), so give the impression that you give a shit about your art.

See how the one with the blue jacket pops out more? The ones on the left look nice against the wall, but it doesn't draw me in to look at them.

That art is set up more like a home environment, where you don't want things distracting you from the T.V. It all just kind of washes into the wall. You want to excite people.

it'll work well. I've been in a few art shows, and i think that'll be a good place for your art to shine.

Your biggest problem will be finding a matting that works with the ones you select. You could go with the white matting but against that wall, it will make your most vibrant picture 10 degrees blander.

Also stay away from

and

While Red Son Superman does have a lot of red in it, it still has way too much gray for the wall you are hanging on. That is unless you can find an awesome matting the breaks up monotony.

On a personal note, I hate it when all the picture frames are the exact same size, but that's a personal problem. You'll also probably find out that this is gonna cost you money as most people who are hanging art for the first time don't have frames or matting.

Yeah, well, I didn't choice those because of the content or because they invoke any kind of feelings in me. It is clinical. They will wash out against that wall.
