Bush Calls for Unity Behind War on Terrorism

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (Reuters) - President Bush , marking the anniversary this week of the start of the Iraq war, appealed on Thursday for international unity behind the war on terrorism amid U.S. concerns over plans by a new government in Spain to withdraw troops from Iraq.

"This terrorist enemy will never be appeased because death is their banner and their cause," Bush told thousands of U.S. troops who returned from Iraq last month.



See, now, this pisses me off. Iraq may have been a bad place prior to our invasion, but it wasn't a staging ground for Al Quaeda. The only reason it is now is because we created conditions ripe for them. Chaos and an easily targetable American presence. Every blow they strike in Iraq is a blow against us, becuase we made this mess, and we can't protect anyone there.

We brought the war on terror to Iraq. Before we overthrew Sadaam they were two totally separate things, at best tangientially related. We decided that Iraq was way more of a priority than Al Quaeda, and we decided we wanted Hussein way more than we wanted Bin Laden.

And now that Spain and Poland are getting itchy because mkaybe we lied to them about our reasons for going there? That's backing out on the war on terror?

Hello! We don't own them, and if they don't want any part of our mess anymore it's hardly surprising. The only thing that surprised me is that the citizens of England haven't handed Tony Blair his hat.


AL QUAEDA committed 9/11. How Bush still gets away with saying there's no difference between Al Quadea and Iraq is beyond me, and worse yet, he's making it come true. By overthrowing Sadaam, he basically built a house for Al Quaeda where they could hurt us without the bothersome commute.

I just hope it doesn't take too long before Americans realize what Bush is doing. I can't stand to listen to Bush supporters who basically dismiss what happened in Spain and is happening in Poland as them being "skeered" and "pussies". There is a reason why the rest of the world is turning their back on us and if Bush gets another 4 years he is going to do things to this country and this world that we will not be able to undo.

THE GRIM NUMBERS tell the outline of the story: 564 U.S. soldiers killed. Another 3,190 injured, many of them mangled by bombs or sniper fire and damaged for life. At least 8,581 Iraqi civilians, many of them children, dead, and many more badly injured.

Zero weapons of mass destruction found and precious little evidence Saddam Hussein was close to having the capacity to make them. Zero evidence the United States has even come close to disrupting al-Qaeda or ending international terrorism (in fact, the horror in Spain is evidence to the contrary).

Even though invading iraq was a stupid thing to do, leaving now is even worse.

Even though the spanish bombings where terrible, voting in a new government and pulling out of iraq basically tells al'qaida that "We are pussys that will roll over and do anything for you if you hit us"

The ability of the terrorists to directly effect the outcome of a western election and cause the Spanish to back down will embolden terrorists even more than dubyas war has.

And when the terrorists manage to trick americans into re-electing Bush it will embolden them even further.

I don't know, it just seems to me if we're so keen on spreading democracy we ought to be able to accept Spains decision, since it was arrived at democratically. The people of spain feel Iraq is our mess. We deffine that as bowing to terrorism. My guess is they don't.

he coalition isn't falling apart becuase of terrorism. It's falling apart becuase we lied to them.

I think now that Al Quaeda is there, we have to fight them, but I don't think this can be done under US control, certainly not with W. as commander in chief. The next government there will almost certainly be shia dominated and friendly to Iran. Al Quaeda isn't interested in killing fundamentalist shia. Of course we'll have to worry about this new government cooperating with Iran way more than we ever worried about real cooperation with Iraq, but that's the situation we created.

The Election was still going to be in favour of the old government. Polls taken just days before showed this.

The election was directly influenced by the attacks, causeing a socialist government that would not have otherwise been able to do so gain power.

Despite the popular idea that all politicians are stupid, they usually aren't half as stupid as you think.
Maybe they made Iraq a "house for terrorists" as a strategical oppurtunity. If they are all in one place, it makes them easier to kill. Whether they nuke iraq, or just quaranteen it and fuck everyone up.

Believing they are stupid is probably exactly what they want everyone to do.
