His novels are SO much better than his movies. I kind of avoided his books for a while thinking that his writing would be kind of trite. Finally, I relented and started reading "Cold Heart Canyon". It has everything sex, gore, Hollywood gossip, freakish actors, monks, Satan, evilly painted wall tiles (you'll have to read it) and did I say sex. I'm looking forward to reading another of his.

I would HOPE they are better than his movies. Nightmare on Elm Street owned....then he gives us the cinematic suppository called Scream 3. Egh.

Exactly. That's why I thought his books would be cliche too but then I saw a few in the bargain bin at Border's. I sat down and started skimming a few pages and decided it actually wasn't bad. I guess his work just doesn't translate to film too well.

I apologize to all who read this read. The writer I was thinking of for the novel is Clive Barker. I guess I had the whole horror movie director thing in my head and transposed the names. I don't even know if Wes Craven writes novels. Again, sorry if I wasted anyone's time.

I've read "The Great and Secret Show" and "Neverwhere" which were both pretty good. MUCH better than that festering piece of shit movie "Lord of Illusions". Still, I felt that the writing was a bit haphazard and the storytelling a bit sloppy in those books.

I don't know if that was a novel of his or not but I'm guessing that, due to his writing style, maybe his books don't translate to the screen well.

I haven't read a lot of his work so I'm reserving my judgement for now ... but he does go off on a tangent at times for seemingly no reason. The dialogue is pretty fresh, though, and he does seem to have a fairly decent knowledge of the occult. Of course, with my limited knowledge of the occult maybe that's not saying much. :/
