I'm thinking of this: http://i-mockery.net/viewtopic.php?t=9876

...but I think this issue is worthy of a new thread. I dunno. I like Kevin's idea of Dean as a Pat Robertson of the Left.

AP: Howard Dean to Depart Campaign Trail

Wednesday February 18, 2004 3:01 PM

By RON FOURNIER and JOHN SOLOMON

Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON (AP) - Howard Dean will end his campaign for the presidential nomination and oversee a new effort to keep his issues alive and his supporters organized on behalf of Democratic causes, two party officials said Wednesday.

Dean was to announce his plans at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

But what kind of activity can we expect from the "Dean Coalition" now? How long can it last? Will it be more active if Bush is re-elected?

Ya, thats it, DNC, steal Dean's thunder. I'm sure he isn't pissed off over how you all tagged team on him.

I'm sure he likes how you are basically going to tell the world he is stepping down. I bet he doesn't thinking running as a Green looks like a good idea now or anything like that.

I mean, it's not like he is pissed off or a little nuts or anything, right?

Dean would never run as a Green, nor would the Greens have him.

I don't think they're considering Howard Dean's consent with the whole "thunder stealing" stuff. I'll admit though that the idea of a bunch of old white guys talking about stealing thunder from an energizefd populist is amusing....

The sad truth is, Kerry probably will steal Dean's thunder, as well as his energized activists. Many/most of them are ABBers, and would campaign for anybody if it might beat Bush. Others are politico opportunists who are simply building up their own resumes in order to run for city council back home, then state assembly, then etc. etc.

Here's an interesting critique on the lost potential of any kind of "Dean movement." I don't agree with it completely, but the point about Dean running more on rhetoric and populism is kind of true. He didn't really speak enough on any kind of policy reform, and people love the word "reform," it just sounds so pure and ascetic (at least in theory).

That doesn't matter. The guy is not the great white knight for Left-wing Liberalism that the press and the Right have made him ou to be.

He's hated by the Lefties in Vermont, and those are the constituents that probably best reflect the Greens right now. Many Greens love Dennis Kucinich....

Yeah, I honestly think that Kucinich is about as far left as it gets with the Democratic Candidates. Dean just got a boost from the left because he capitalized on his anti-war position.
