Come on. You know you want to shoot some ruskies on the white house lawn.

Microsixaxis. Can I just plug any USB headset into my PS3 and use that? Or do I have to buy a special PS3 headset?

Most USB and bluetooth headsets work with it. The official one is nice though, has a charging stand and a mute button on it and also has some kind of High Quality voice mode so people hear you clearer and you hear them?

Any USB headset will work. My friend's got a Logitech headset. You can even use it in Rock Band, though he looks like a tool with the thing on his head.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is breaking my heart. It isn't a respectful remodeling like Resident Evil. It's a Hollywood style re-imagining where they've completely missed the point. Maybe I shouldn't assume so much from just watching the trailer, but that trailer didn't make me feel anything at all. No hype or anticipation, not even the smallest morsel of hope. The Silent Hill I knew really is gone forever.

A question just to hear what everyone thinks...

In your opinion what was the last GOOD Silent Hill game? Bonus if you care to elaborate and say why you thought it was good and/or how the next one dropped the ball.

Personally I think SH2 was the last good one. I just didnt like 3 at all and I pretty much didnt play any more after that. I did pick up The Room or whatever and got a little into it but never finished it.

SH2 was definitely the best, but I still felt that 3 was a good addition to the series.

4 was pretty much a departure, what with them giving you an actual health bar and a charge meter for your attacks.

I have it on PS3. Honestly, would've rather had this game on a 360, cause like 60 percent of the MW2 people are on there even if a lot of them are 11 year olds.

I don't mind the fact they're on the game, because when I was 11, i know i wouldnt want to wait 6 years just to play the game but please dont use your microphone and then curse/rap on it.

Hey, Wii owners, are you ready for a game with a little substance after a slew of shovelware and casual shit?

Well, I guess you'll have to wait a little longer, courtesy of Capcom!

SIlEnT HILL

Origins was the last one I liked. You have to ignore certain bits though, like most of the end game. This is one problem I have with western atempts at the series. They take the Silent Hill concept of hell and make it way too literal. Origins ends with you fighting an actual biblical demon. Another problem with Origins, the psychological elements are not very subtle. Most things are spelled out for you so you won't spend much time spinning outrageous theories (Henry's not a real person!). My reasons for liking the game I'm not able to enumerate as easily. I guess I like it because it feels like a Silent Hill and that's good enough for me.

You know, if Shattered Memories fails as a Silent Hill, it could probably still be a good horror game. Even if high-minded things like decent pacing and the building of tension through silence and Silent Hill's subtle psychological elements and symbolism and all that shit miss Climax completely, unkillable stalker characters have always terrified me, and I thought just being able to murder everything in all the Silent Hills made the games significantly less scary. So I support the Clock Tower approach completely. It could be that which ends up saving Shattered Memories from absolute shittiness.

More of a little thing, too, but I think it looks really good, and I'm glad people other than Nintendo themselves are finally trying to make Wii games that don't look like something a Dreamcast threw up.

The chase scenes from the trailer look like they boil down to Quick Time Events.

Maybe what's upsetting me is that the trailer is a total plagiarism of every other trailer I've ever seen for a "psychological horror". Maybe the game is actually gonna be great! They got the aesthetics all wrong though. And why'd they redesign Dahlia as a trashy lady? Is that to make the game more modern?

According to the dev team the choices you make in the game affect the appearance of the characters and the monsters and shit, so I'm assuming Harry being a slut turned Dahlia so or something.

Not sure why she's 30 years younger than in the original, though.

The whole gist of what Climax is trying to do is basically apply the representation of Silent Hill from the second game, i.e. a personalized hell/purgatory for bastards, but instead of poor old James Sunderland or Harry Mason the town's punishing, it's you. So they give you a bunch of psychological tests and shit at the beginning to try and find out what kind of person you are, and of course it's also reflected by gameplay descisions, and the game is supposedly tailored from this to scare and disturb you as much as possible. Considering the original game focused pretty heavily on the things Alessa hated or was afraid of, this is a gigantic change of aesthetic.

Why they thought a bunch of ice and shit would be more iconic than the usual rusty grating and dirty hospital sheets is beyond me, though. It also kind of scares me how much the trailers for this game take after Alone in the Dark, especially the real-time landscape morphing.

I'll still buy it, though. 3 years ago I might have not bothered with a game I wasn't 100% about, but release starvation hasn't made me picky, especially when it comes to Wii games.

I respect they're trying something new with the whole psychological tests and the flashlight. Recently I've realized that I love Silent Hill 4 because they tried a lot of new things. Most of them didn't work but man, almost. The titular room was a stroke of genius, I wish they'd invested more time into that part of the game.

This sort of thing is what makes me feel they missed the point. How long does it take to build that sort of game mechanic? And yet it has no effect on the atmosphere, if anything it kills the mood. They probably shouldn't be showing the transition in the first place, it's bad for ambiguity.

I could bitch and moan until the cows came home but regardless of what I say I'll definitely end up playing this game eventually. Even if I'd known Homecoming was going to turn out the way it did I'd still of played it because I'd need to see it for myself.
