Old May 30th, 2003, 04:46 PM        I-Mockery looking for someone to setup a mirror site.
Since we're no longer selling the A.L.E. albums, we've decided to put them all up online in mp3 format in the near future. Many of you haven't heard any of these songs, and we've got 2 full albums worth of comedic tunes and spoken word pieces for you to hear.

Naturally, all of these mp3s will be a strain on the server, so I'm looking for someone who can host mirrors of these mp3s in case the I-Mockery server is too bogged down with traffic. There's gonna be about 40-50 mp3s in total. Whoever can mirror the mp3s will be thanked on the site and if you'd like, I can send ya some free I-Mockery stickers or whatever...

Really glad we're gonna be able to share these songs with you guys though, because "Songs You've Never Heard Before" and "Negative Patient Healthcare Outcome" haven't been available for a long time now. Looking forward to seeing what you guys think of our old comedic tunes.

Yeah, I'm capping them now and sampling at 24-bit 96Khz so that you can experience the full dynamic range of the phenomenon that is A.L.E.

It's a lot of fun revisiting the days of yore while going through these songs. Acting like fools in Rog's basement and recording it to tape, and spreading it like some horrible affliction. Those were some of the best times ever.

50 megs for 40-50 mp3s just isn't gonna cut it. We need someone who doesn't have any big space restraints on their server.

Only 96khz? :<

I don't cap anything at under 160, and I prefer 196

I am referring to the sample rate in khz, not the bitrate of an MP3 in kbits. They are two entirely different things.

I am sampling the audio at 24-bit 96khz; an MP3 is 16-bit 44.1khz.
I have the capability of sampling at 32-bit 192khz, but that is just wantonly excessive for an analog signal.

The MP3 will most likely be encoding using a variable bitrate to maximize sound quality while minimizing the file size.

Don't confuse the sampling rate with the bit rate. The sampling rate, measured in kilohertz (KHz), is the number of times per second that the original sound source was sampled during recording. CD-quality audio is recorded in stereo at a sampling rate of 44.1 KHz. No matter what bit rate you use to record audio, it will never sound better than the original source. A 44.1 KHz stereo recording converted to MP3 format at a bit rate of 128 Kbps will always sound better than a 24 KHz mono recording converted at the same (or even a higher) bit rate.

Have any idea when you're gonna need the mirror site? I'm up to 650MB now.

I'm just waiting on ZeroSignal. He's the one converting all of the songs from CD to mp3. So whenever he's done with them, I'll be ready to put them online. 650mb is pretty good man, I'm sure we'll be able to mirror at least one of the albums there.

What I'm planning on doing is releasing 2 songs per day on the site, rather than all of them at once. For one thing, it'll keep people coming back, but the main thing is I don't want to kill all the bandwidth off in one swoop. By spreading it out, it should be better.

I would host them, but I don't trust Mockery with FTP access and MP3s would download really slow off the server I'm on anyways.

Liquid, what is your friend's server though? I mean, if he's running it off of his cable modem, that's not gonna do the trick. Having 20 gigs of space is great, but if it can't handle a good chunk o' bandwidth, it's not gonna help too much.

And yeah, I wouldn't host them on your server AChimp... but for the record, I don't even need ftp access. The people who are going to mirror the files are more than welcome to upload them on their own.

No problem, I appreciate you looking into it. Let me know if any of your friends can offer free space. Even if it's something like 200 megs and a couple gigs of bandwidth per month, I'm sure I could use it for the upcoming mp3s.
