Old Jul 13th, 2003, 01:06 PM        Outer Banks (Kill Devil Hills) possible Mock-Meet ?
I used to vacation in the Outer Banks (Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, and Manteo) during the summer all the time. We just went there again for a few days and had a great time. While we were there, I noticed that there's a shload o' places right on the beach that are for rent. So I was thinking we could all have a big mock meet there. Barbeque grills, Hammocks to sleep in while you look out at the Atlantic ocean, Television/Movies/Video Games, swimming in the ocean (if you're into it) and pools, huge piers to go fishing off of (saw a guy catch a lil' SHARK yesterday), Boogie Boarding, Sand Surfing, Crabbing (I loooove crabbing), etc etc. These are BIG places and they wouldn't even cost that much if a bunch of us were going. And there's also a lot of amusement park type places nearby... big water slides, go karts, bumper cars and bumper boats with built in water guns, miniature golf courses with pirate themes (), diving, dolphins, aquariums, etc etc.

The rates go way down starting August 30th (because most people go back to school around that time, but the weather is still perfectly warm). So we could get a huge place for a full WEEK if we wanted for about 600-800 bux tops. Divide that up amongst 10+ people and it'd be really easy to pull off. And of course, if people couldn't do it for a full week, there's always the option to just rent it for 2-3 days or whatever. You can get places with pool tables, hot tubs, game rooms, fireplaces, whatever ya like...

Anyway, would anybody be interested in doing this as a mock meet? Seems a shame that we haven't already had one this year.

Also, here's some pics from when we were just up there during the past week:

A sampling of the awesome types of places that we could rent. I told you they were pretty friggin' huge. Some of 'em even have roof access for an even better view of the ocean.

As you can see, there's populated beaches and ones that have nobody on. So if you prefer, you can go to a beach where nobody else is around to bug ya. Always nice...

I forgot to mention that when you go there, they put you through this machine that shrinks you down so that they'll have room for more vacationers. o.o

Yeh, it can get pretty windy on them beaches. Good times!

Some of the piers extend waaay out from the beach. We were standing on the end of the pier here. Gives you a really nice view of everything...

Diggers Dungeon? You don't mean...

GRAVEDIGGER!

Yep, on your way into Nags Head you can pass by the Digger's Dungeon, home of the infamous monster truck - Gravedigger.

Even more impressive was their custom Ninja Turtle mobile. I almost had a heart attack when I saw this awesome thing.

:carofmydreams

So anyway, yeah that's a brief glimpse of the spiffy stuff in Nags Head. Anybody interested in having a mock meet there come late August or early September?

fuck salem, i'm sick of this town. I got to get out of here. I'm there as long as it's taking place during labor day weekend. This place sounds a lot simliar to hampton beach/salisbury beach up in new hampshire but then there are some of you i would like to meet and pick on...i may bring a friend from maryland with me.

I went there last year with my family, the ocean water sucked. It was way too salty, and all the beaches seemed to have excess levels of washed up sea weed. It was fun.

Salt water is always salty... you're not there to drink it. As for seaweed, there was hardly any. As long as you don't go after a huge storm or something, the waters there don't have much shit floating around in them. Actually, the water was much more clear than usual this last time that we were up there. But like I said, there's pools for those who don't want to swim in the ocean anyway... that's the point of trying to do this mock meet. There'd be something for everybody, whether you want to be outdoors or indoors.

I'm going only if you can garuntee that we'll be put next door to rich people who get all uptight at our antics, then one of the girls (do girls even post here any more?) falls for one of the guys over there (one of the ones that secretly wants to hang with us but can't becasue you know the other guys will hate him for it and also you know, he's like one of the enemy! but like really he's cool we just don't know it).

Actually that looks really fun and probably I couldn't go

Find a way Jixby, FIND A WAY.

If you guys do want to do this, I figure we'll need to get roughly 10 people together (although many more than that would be welcome of course). We'd probably want to have the place that we decide on reserved by mid-August if we're gonna try going sometime in early to mid September. So if you think you could probably go and you haven't already posted in here, by all means do so.

This sounds intriguing. I'm taking vacation time in September, so this would be do-able. I was going to go to surf school in B.C., but the Outer Banks would be just as good a place to do my surf holiday as any. Plus, I'd get to be molested by Protoclown during his wet dream thrashings. What more could you want?

I'll have to think about it.

Heh, now that looks cool.

I'm severely tempted by this one. For many reasons:

1. If it's after August 30th, it won't be clashing with the Leeds Festival.
2. Guarantee of lots of people there.
3. My summer job should be finished by then so I'll have the time and the money.
4. I need a holiday.

BUT get this: my 21st is the 5th of September. I'm not really planning to do much on my actual birthday (apart from getting massively drunk of course) because college doesn't start for another month and most of my friends are not in town - so the festivities would be postponed... but for the cost of a cheap flight, some outlay for the accomodation, and someone to pick me up from the airport, I'd have a fuckin' 21st to remember - Monster Trucks and all!

I don't think it's doable for me THIS year... perhaps next year if there is a next year

It's just that I have school... not that I care that much, but my parents do. I don't know if I can convince them to let me go. I've already got something planned coming up soon. They'd probably frown on me taking two little trips like that so close together.

I'd be willing to go, but I might start working sometime in the next few weeks. I'm sure I could get the time off, but I'd need plenty of advance notice as to when this would be happening.

We could have my hookah party then.

Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck! It's going to take a miracle for me to get there. I'm already taking a vacation to Florida in August that's going to cost me like $1000. I'm also planning on moving out in the near future so there's no way I can make it to this if it's in early September. Fuck!

Well that's definitely understandable... actually, next year I'm going to try to make a big road trip with a bunch of mockers. Basically a big cross-country trip... so if nothing else, I'm sure we can meet up then.

I still can't believe you're going to fuckin' Disney world. :/

Well anyway, we might be able to bump the trip up a month or two if it's not enough time in advance for people. The only problem with that is that the water would definitely be too cold for swimming for those who want to do that.

We're only going because two friends of ours are already going and invited us to tag along. That and I've been there like six or seven times since I was a kid and never took a ride on Space Mountain.
