I used to vacation in the Outer Banks (Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, and Manteo) during the summer all the time. We just went there again for a few days and had a great time. While we were there, I noticed that there's a shload o' places right on the beach that are for rent. So I was thinking we could all have a big mock meet there. Barbeque grills, Hammocks to sleep in while you look out at the Atlantic ocean, Television/Movies/Video Games, swimming in the ocean (if you're into it) and pools, huge piers to go fishing off of (saw a guy catch a lil' SHARK yesterday), Boogie Boarding, Sand Surfing, Crabbing (I loooove crabbing), etc etc. These are
BIG places and they wouldn't even cost that much if a bunch of us were going. And there's also a lot of amusement park type places nearby... big water slides, go karts, bumper cars and bumper boats with built in water guns, miniature golf courses with pirate themes (
), diving, dolphins, aquariums, etc etc.
The rates go way down starting August 30th (because most people go back to school around that time, but the weather is still perfectly warm). So we could get a huge place for a full WEEK if we wanted for about 600-800 bux tops. Divide that up amongst 10+ people and it'd be really easy to pull off. And of course, if people couldn't do it for a full week, there's always the option to just rent it for 2-3 days or whatever. You can get places with pool tables, hot tubs, game rooms, fireplaces, whatever ya like...
Anyway, would anybody be interested in doing this as a mock meet? Seems a shame that we haven't already had one this year.
Also, here's some pics from when we were just up there during the past week:
A sampling of the awesome types of places that we could rent. I told you they were pretty friggin' huge. Some of 'em even have roof access for an even better view of the ocean.
As you can see, there's populated beaches and ones that have nobody on. So if you prefer, you can go to a beach where nobody else is around to bug ya. Always nice...
I forgot to mention that when you go there, they put you through this machine that shrinks you down so that they'll have room for more vacationers. o.o
Yeh, it can get pretty windy on them beaches. Good times!
Some of the piers extend waaay out from the beach. We were standing on the end of the pier here. Gives you a really nice view of everything...
Diggers Dungeon? You don't mean...
GRAVEDIGGER!
Yep, on your way into Nags Head you can pass by the Digger's Dungeon, home of the infamous monster truck - Gravedigger.
Even more impressive was their custom Ninja Turtle mobile. I almost had a heart attack when I saw this awesome thing.
:carofmydreams
So anyway, yeah that's a brief glimpse of the spiffy stuff in Nags Head. Anybody interested in having a mock meet there come late August or early September?
