Old Feb 17th, 2008, 03:33 AM        High on Fire and some other bands, Uncle Pleasant's, 2-16-08
What a night it's been and at only 12 dollars! Saaaaay, where'd all the furniture go at in this place there used to be stools and chairs and sitting things!

Anyways, the first band of the night was Intronaut, four songs of screaming hardcore (metalcore?). Just when I was somehow starting to enjoy it, they ended. So boo on that.

Next was Saviours, and I'm not sure but they sounded kinda stoner rock to me. Wait, let me look..... *looks on stonerrock.com*....YES! YES THEY ARE! They sounded alright but the vocals grated my ears.

Then there was A Boy Just Died....or was it a Day Just Died....Well, it had four words and a generirock type of name, but hey, they had flashing lights and screamo vox and the moshers were doing karate kicks. I got promptly wax-on-waxed-off with a reverse-headbutt to the eye. The dude I had a conversation with was looking most forward to this.

Well, fuck that guy because I was looking most forward to High on Fire, who promptly tore the whole fucking house to pieces! I would have never noticed it much on studio, but Matt Pike is a fucking caveman BEAST on his guitar. The band was top-notch here putting on lengthy, gritty performances of many different songs, mostly the new material. Still, they put on a stunning set and my ears are still ringing 3 and a half hours later. I bought the caveman-lookin' shirt.

I love going to concerts like this, where the openers are just okay but the headlining band takes the experience into a total 90-degrees (As I mentioned, the other bands were just okay, so a 180 spin wouldn't work unless the bands outright sucked....or if you thought High On Fire were just "okay"...which they're obviously not.) and kicks ass the rest of the night.

So here's the setlist for HOF if you're wondering:
Turk
Nemesis
Death Is This Communion
Rumors Of War
DII
Cometh Down Hessian
Blessed Black Wings
Fury Whip....oh, wait, this is Waste Of Tiamat. I'm fuckin' high.
Fury Whip
Devilution

High On Fire is pretty wicked. I foresee them having a good future ahead.

I saw high on fire & saviours two weeks ago. They're both amazing live.
Got to chill with Pike after it, too
